The Street Ratchada is hosting an event in the heart of Ratchada to enhance auspiciousness for the Year of the Dragon and celebrate the 8th anniversary of the shopping center. The first-ever display of the Giant Dragon Lantern featuring 5 elements and 5 colors, measuring 22 meters in length, is set to attract both Thai and international tourists to witness its grandeur and receive blessings as we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one. Spiritual seekers are invited not to miss the activity of passing under the dragon's belly to receive positive energy.

Mr. Pongsak Nuntawanakul, Managing Director of The Street Ratchada, stated that this event aims to reinforce the shopping center's role as a tourism hub and stimulate unique nighttime tourism experiences. It also celebrates the 8th anniversary of the shopping center by transforming the area in front of The Street Ratchada into a new tourist landmark to welcome the Year of the Dragon. The creation of the “Giant Dragon Lantern 5 Elements 5 Colors” is intended to bring good fortune to visitors who come to admire and take photos, serving as a symbol of luck and prosperity from the New Year until the Chinese New Year of 2024. The display will run from December 16, 2023, to February 29, 2024.

The “Giant Dragon Lantern 5 Elements 5 Colors” is organized in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, creating a buzz that has become the Talk of the Town. It also aims to promote creative tourism during the New Year and Chinese New Year festivals, stimulate trade and tourism, and enhance the experience for tourists visiting Thailand. Additionally, it positions The Street Ratchada as an event landmark in Ratchada, establishing a unique identity for the venue. The event also invites tourists from China to visit, celebrating the diplomatic relationship between Thailand and China. The main target audience includes local residents, Thai and foreign tourists who enjoy exploring new and creatively cultural venues. It is expected that over 200,000 people will attend the event throughout its duration.

Believing that the dragon is a revered divine creature symbolizing power, virtue, bravery, and greatness akin to a deity, ancient Chinese people believed that asking for blessings from the dragon would enhance positive energy and auspiciousness in life. The dragon is considered the guardian spirit of the elements, bringing abundance and timely rainfall throughout the year. Therefore, The Street Ratchada uses the dragon as a representation of greatness to enhance energy for the Year of the Dragon by creating a 22-meter long dragon lantern designed according to Chinese traditions and Feng Shui principles. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience receiving blessings and good fortune according to the different meanings of each dragon color. This is a great opportunity for Thai citizens and tourists to pay homage and seek blessings from the 5 elemental dragons: the Red Dragon representing Fire, which supports those born under the Earth element; the Blue Dragon representing Water, which supports those born under the Wood element; the Gold Dragon representing Earth, which supports those born under the Metal element; the Silver Dragon representing Metal, which supports those born under the Water element; and the Green Dragon representing Wood, which supports those born under the Fire element. A highlight activity not to be missed for spiritual seekers is passing under the dragon according to their birth element, believed to bring positive energy and prosperity throughout the year.

The event will be graced by Mr. Yuthapan Chaitip, Deputy Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mr. Prateungwit Dejai, Director of Din Daeng District, and Namfah Thanyaphat, an artist and actress, along with a special performance of “Jade Dragon” featuring a 32-meter long golden dragon parade. Special guest Mor Chang Tosaporn Sritula will also join to discuss zodiac stories and share ways to enhance auspiciousness for great fortune in the Year of the Dragon and offer guidance for the upcoming year.

“The Street Ratchada is confident that the display of the Giant Dragon Lantern 5 Elements 5 Colors will attract interest from both Thai and international tourists.
