Cabinet Approves 200 Billion Baht Budget Cut for State Agencies to Combat COVID-19 and Drought
According to reports from the Government House, the Cabinet has approved budgetary measures to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 situation and the drought crisis. These measures include adjustments to regular expenditure budgets, investment budgets, central budgets, and contingency funds for emergencies or necessities.
The adjustments to the regular expenditure budget require all government agencies to consider reducing their budgets and modifying their operational methods by 10% of the regular expenditure budget, which is set at 2.39 trillion baht this year. This will create a fund of approximately 200 billion baht to address the COVID-19 situation and the drought crisis.
The reallocated budget will be used for procurement from businesses, small producers, and short-term labor hiring. Additionally, agencies are encouraged to reconsider plans for international travel for study visits, meetings, seminars, and training abroad, shifting these activities to be conducted domestically and focusing on procurement from local businesses and small producers.
