The Cabinet has approved the waiver of toll fees on Motorway No. 7 and No. 9 during the long holiday from September 4-7 to promote domestic tourism and ease the financial burden on citizens.

On August 26, 2020, Ms. Traisuli Traisaranakul, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Cabinet meeting on August 25 had approved the principle of a draft ministerial regulation to waive vehicle toll fees on Motorway No. 7 from Bangkok to Pattaya and Motorway No. 9, the outer ring road of Bangkok (Kanchanaphisek Road) from Bang Pa-in to Bang Phli and from Phra Pradaeng to Bang Khae at the Phra Pradaeng interchange, effective from 00:01 on September 3, 2020, until 24:00 on September 8, 2020, as proposed by the Ministry of Transport.

This decision follows the Cabinet's resolution on August 13, which designated September 4 and September 7, 2020, as public holidays to compensate for the Songkran festival holiday of 2020. This creates a continuous four-day holiday, leading to an expected increase in the number of people traveling out of Bangkok for leisure and other activities in the provinces. Therefore, waiving the toll fees on Motorway No. 7 and Motorway No. 9 during this period is anticipated to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

As a result, the waiver of toll fees on Motorway No. 7 and Motorway No. 9 during this time will enhance traffic efficiency, allowing citizens to travel more conveniently and quickly. It will also reduce the country's energy consumption caused by traffic congestion at toll booths and promote domestic tourism, alleviating the financial burden on the public.
