'Finance Ministry' boasts of exceeding revenue collection target by nearly 100 billion baht in 10 months.
On August 22, 2019, Mr. Lavaron Sangsnit, Director of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) and spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, announced that during the first 10 months of the fiscal year 2019 (October 2018 – July 2019), the government collected a net revenue of 2.11 trillion baht, which is 91.2 billion baht or 4.5% higher than the same period last year, and 60.4 billion baht or 2.9% above the budget estimates. This increase was driven by the Revenue Department exceeding its target by 48.2 billion baht, or 3.1%, while other agencies surpassed their target by 40.8 billion baht, or 31.1%. State enterprises exceeded their target by 14.8 billion baht, or 10.1%, and the Customs Department's revenue collection was 7.9 billion baht, or 9.5% higher than estimated.
“For the remainder of the fiscal year 2019, the Ministry of Finance will closely monitor and supervise to ensure that government revenue collection meets the set targets,” Mr. Lavaron stated.
Mr. Lavaron further stated that the government's cash flow position during the first 10 months of fiscal year 2019 (October 2018 – July 2019) showed total revenue remitted to the treasury of 2.12 trillion baht, while total budget expenditures amounted to 2.58 trillion baht. The government borrowed 322 billion baht to cover the deficit, resulting in a cash balance of 484 billion baht at the end of July 2019.
