LPP Property Co., Ltd. is intensifying its measures to create a smoke-free community in residential areas, inviting over 260 housing projects to participate in the campaign “7 Days No Smoke: Dare to Quit” for the second year. This initiative aims to rally support for reducing and quitting smoking, in collaboration with Quitline 1600, providing an accessible option for those looking to quit.

Mr. Surawut Sukjareonsin, CEO of LPP Property Management Co., Ltd., a leader in comprehensive real estate project management, announced that LPP is set to continue its activities in observance of World No Tobacco Day, designated by the World Health Organization on May 31 each year. This initiative recognizes the serious health risks posed to smokers, those exposed to secondhand smoke, and environmental pollution. This year, the company is launching the campaign “7 Days No Smoke: Dare to Quit” as a core activity to be held annually across more than 260 projects managed by LPP, involving over 400,000 residents. The campaign invites residents and the general public to join in promoting the cessation of smoking within their respective housing projects through various activities from May 25 to May 31, 2024. Additionally, LPP will provide education on the harms of smoking throughout the month of the campaign and will continue to promote awareness within the residential projects under its management. The goal is not only to encourage smoking cessation during the campaign period but also to ultimately drive the community towards being smoke-free, hoping that this project will serve as a starting point.

“As LPP manages comprehensive real estate projects, we aim to deliver a better quality of life for residents and building users in all aspects, including mental and physical health. We are aligning with the Office of the National Health Security Fund (NHSO) in 2024 to campaign for smoke-free local communities, creating a society that reduces smoking and health risks at the community level. Surveys indicate a significant rise in e-cigarette use, especially among Thai youth, who are increasingly adopting e-cigarettes without understanding the severe health risks associated with them. In our role as managers of residential projects, which are shared living spaces, we have partnered with the National Quitline Service (Quitline) 1600 to actively support Thai citizens in their efforts to quit smoking. LPP will promote each project’s management to assist residents seeking advice on quitting smoking, enabling them to receive help directly from Quitline 1600 by signing up with their respective management bodies. This initiative aims to provide guidance, encouragement, and follow-up support from expert counselors focused on motivation and behavior modification. While quitting smoking is challenging, many have succeeded. This year marks the second time we are promoting the Quitline 1600 initiative, enhancing our efforts to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking and e-cigarettes, as well as establishing social guidelines or measures to ensure that all residents can coexist in a healthy environment.

Associate Professor Dr. Jintana Yooniphan, Director of the National Quitline Service (Quitline 1600) at the Health Promotion Foundation (HPF), expressed her delight at LPP's commitment to continuing policies aimed at creating a smoke-free Thai society. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the harms of smoking and e-cigarettes across over 260 housing projects. The Quitline 1600 service operates on the principle of helping smokers decide to quit and successfully achieve cessation. All citizens can access the service for counseling without the use of medications or nicotine replacement therapies. Instead, the service provides support for those who call seeking to quit smoking, encouraging them to commit to quitting through mobile phone consultations at no cost, available every day, including public holidays, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. From 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, calls are accepted only, and individuals can leave voice messages and contact numbers for the center to return calls between 11:00 PM and 9:00 AM for free consultations as well.” Dr. Jintana concluded.

Additionally, those interested in participating in the “7 Days No Smoke: Dare to Quit” campaign for the second year can join the campaign on the Facebook Page: LPP Property by answering questions about smoking knowledge and sharing why they want a smoke-free society. The campaign will run from May 25 to May 31, 2024, and participants may also have the chance to win prizes for their involvement.
