Samsung Invites Everyone to Immerse Themselves in the First Exhibition of the Year, Nine Plus Five Works by Michel Auder, a Legendary Artist and Creator of Iconic Video Art from the 60s, at Bangkok Kunsthalle
Bangkok Kunsthalle is a new art exhibition space located in the vibrant Yaowarat area, founded by Marisa Chiaravanont in 2024. It aims to be a hub for exhibitions, discussions, and exchanges among contemporary art communities in Thailand and Southeast Asia. The first exhibition of the year, “Nine Plus Five Works”, features the works of Michel Auder, a filmmaker and experimental artist known for his video art since the 1960s. Curated by Stefano Rabolli Pansera, this exhibition is enhanced by Samsung's collaboration, elevating the art viewing experience through the cutting-edge Samsung Neo QLED 8K display, allowing audiences to enjoy an immersive art experience on a limitless screen.

Michel Auder is distinguished for his imaginative observational style. His films can be seen as both realistic reflections and deeply poetic narratives. He is renowned for his experimental works that do not follow chronological storytelling, often blending art, documentary, and personal narratives, resembling diary entries or dream records. His use of a portable video camera has allowed him to closely document his personal life, breaking traditional storytelling norms in contemporary video art and film.
Over the past several decades, Auder has consistently created works that connect personal themes with universal experiences, inviting viewers to see the world through his perspective and share experiences ranging from the mundane to the extraordinary. This has led him to question the nature of 'time and memory' between 'reality and fiction', 'experience and presentation', and ultimately 'intimacy and exposure'.

The works exhibited at Bangkok Kunsthalle are presented in two segments. The first group consists of five pieces that explore nature through complex creativity, while the second group includes nine works that showcase Auder's evolution through various artistic forms. This collection features event recordings, travel diaries, video portraits, and experimental videos, all conveyed with the depth of poetry, alongside a personal collection where Auder employs diverse techniques in editing, filming, and storytelling.

A highlight of this exhibition is Auder's portrayal of the essence of Bangkok through ‘Flowers of Thailand’ (2023), created while he was an artist in residence supported by Bangkok Kunsthalle. This artwork, displayed on two screens, evokes a sense of correspondence between shapes and colors, along with ‘Yaowarat’ (2023), which depicts daily life on the streets of Bangkok, capturing the fluid yet unplanned movements of people and goods.

Furthermore, the artworks are presented through the latest Samsung Neo QLED 8K technology, featuring an 8K resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels, allowing viewers to experience the sharpness of every frame with 33 million pixels. With Neo Quantum HDR 8K Pro, the viewing experience is enhanced with vibrant colors and a wide contrast range, creating an even more lifelike image. This is also the world's first TV to be PANTONE Validated, ensuring color accuracy certified by leading color experts, all on a large Infinity Screen design over 85 inches, allowing for an uninterrupted immersion in the artwork.
Michel Auder's works have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries worldwide. His pieces are also part of national treasures in various state museums, including the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), FRAC Provence-Alpes-Côtes d’Azur (Marseille, France), Kadist Art Foundation (Paris, France), Muhka (Antwerp, Belgium), ICA (Miami, USA), and many more.

Those interested can visit the exhibition “Nine Plus Five Works” by Michel Auder from January 12 to February 11, 2024, at Bangkok Kunsthalle, 599 Maitreejit Road, Pom Prap, Bangkok. Open daily from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
