Regional Economic Situation Weekly Report as of June 23, 2023

In May 2023, the number of newly registered trucks was 6,678 units, reflecting a slight contraction of -0.1% year-on-year, which is a slowdown from the previous month (a growth of 9.24% month-on-month seasonally adjusted). The details are as follows: 1) Northern region grew by 9.5% year-on-year, with strong performance in Chiang Rai, Tak, and Uthai Thani. 2) Bangkok and surrounding areas grew by 4.0% year-on-year, with notable growth in Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom, and Bangkok itself. 3) The Western region contracted by -1.6% year-on-year but still showed growth in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ratchaburi. 4) The Northeastern region contracted by -2.0% year-on-year but had growth in Nakhon Phanom, Udon Thani, and Surin. 5) The Central region contracted by -3.0% year-on-year, with growth in Sing Buri, Chai Nat, and Lopburi. 6) The Southern region contracted by -3.7% year-on-year, with growth in Phuket, Pattani, and Krabi. 7) The Eastern region contracted by -9.6% year-on-year, but there was growth in Sa Kaeo and Chachoengsao.
In May 2023, the capital investment of factories starting operations amounted to 5.712 billion baht, with investments spread across various regions, particularly: 1) Bangkok and surrounding areas had an investment of 1.827 billion baht, with 884 million baht in Samut Sakhon, including 454.97 million baht for a plastic injection factory producing car logos and logo holders, and 198.13 million baht for an electronics parts factory using stamping and plating processes. 2) The Eastern region had an investment of 1.430 billion baht, with 832.46 million baht in Rayong, including 348.60 million baht for a colored plastic production factory. 3) The Northern region had an investment of 1.413 billion baht, with 747.42 million baht in Chiang Mai, including 664 million baht for a factory producing drinking water and plastic containers.
