Bangkok August 15, 2018 Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), a subsidiary of DTGO Corporation Limited, organized a 3-minute short film contest under the theme “My Third Place” in the 101 The Third Place Project. The contest offers a prize for a study trip to a television station in Japan, valued at 500,000 baht. The winning team will collaborate with a professional team to produce their work for public release, providing an opportunity for youth to create a pathway into the industry.

Ms. Nicha Srisangwansakul, Senior Director of Commercial Space Management and Retail at Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), stated that the short film contest “My Third Place in the 101 The Third Place Project, a new happiness space for Bangkok residents,” received a positive response from students and those interested in short films. After participating in workshops led by industry professionals, the selected teams advanced to the final round within the designated timeframe.

“Congratulations to all participants who joined the contest and had the opportunity to gain real experience and learn from professional teams in film production. This platform has inspired a new generation interested in filmmaking to further develop their skills. It is a great opportunity for personal growth, and the winners can use their work to create opportunities in the professional industry in the future.”

Renowned experts and award-winning directors Mr. Surakrit Sarathattham and Mr. Patthar Vichchuphanon, founders and strategic communication managers at Pixel Serum, who led workshops on short film techniques at leading universities in Thailand such as Bangkok University, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thammasat University, and Assumption University (ABAC), stated that the committee selected works based on contest criteria from 20 teams, narrowing it down to just 5 teams:

  1. “The Real World” by Team Nacho, Bangkok University
  2. “Genre” by Team Bangplear, Bangkok Christian College
  3. “Lift Me Alone” by Team Tonight We Eat Chicken, Silpakorn University
  4. “Sunday” by Team THRIVE, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, and Assumption University
  5. “Yellow” by Team RIP127, Silpakorn University

“After viewing the works of all 300 teams submitted, we saw creativity, diverse perspectives, problem-solving approaches, and editing skills that can be further developed into a career in film production. For those who apply the concepts learned to their work or activities that benefit themselves and society, it is possible since social media channels currently favor moving images, such as live broadcasts. This experience can be leveraged, making careers in this field highly sought after in the creative job market,” said Mr. Patthar Vichchuphanon.

Mr. Chanthawit Thanasavee, also known as Ter, an actor, expressed gratitude to MQDC for supporting the My Third Place short film project in the 101 The Third Place initiative, as it provides opportunities for those interested in this field to showcase their skills. Personally, he understands that short films require concise, clear, and focused presentation due to time constraints. It is a task that demands the ability to communicate through moving images, requiring both an understanding of the art of film and the art of presentation. “Short films” are an art form that requires high skill and presents a challenge in how to present them to captivate the audience and meet the set objectives.

“I believe every short film from every team is equally interesting, but due to the limited number of awards, the committee had to select the films with the fewest flaws. This means that every team has the skill and potential to develop their work to meet the presentation objectives. The more concise, sharp, and powerful the summary of the objectives, the more it will draw out the charm of the short film to captivate the audience.”

Chanthawit, or Ter, graduated with a bachelor's degree in film and photography and has experience working behind the scenes, including writing scripts, assisting directors, photography, and acting coaching at GDH. He was nominated for the 11th Starpics Awards for Best Screenplay alongside Nontara Kumwong and Banjong Pisanthanakun for the film “Pee Mak Phra Khanong” and “Guan Muen Ho.” He is also the recipient of the Best Emerging Actor award at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
