Minister Nikhorn Visits Romklao to Monitor Quality of Life Improvements and Sustainable Waste Management
Mr. Nikhorn Somklang, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, visited the Romklao community housing project to inspect and monitor the progress of quality of life improvements for residents. He emphasized the need for comprehensive community development, including environmental management, public space rehabilitation, and support for vulnerable groups, aiming to enhance the community's livability, safety, and long-term sustainability. He was welcomed by Mr. Thaveepong Vichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority, Mr. Thawatch Sinpan, Deputy Governor, and other executives on May 21, 2023, at the Romklao area, Romklao Road, Khlong Song Ton Nun Subdistrict, Lat Krabang District, Bangkok.
Mr. Thaveepong Vichaidit stated that Minister Nikhorn's visit aimed to closely monitor the quality of life improvements for residents in Romklao and to address the community's pressing issues. The visit began with an inspection of the Blind and Disabled Service Cooperative in Zone 6 to understand the living conditions and needs of visually impaired individuals. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security will collaborate with relevant agencies to expedite assistance.

Additionally, the Minister visited the wastewater treatment system in the Romklao Rehabilitation Project, Zone 7, currently managed by the Bangkok Drainage Bureau. He emphasized the need for effective wastewater management to prevent water pollution before discharge into public canals, as well as improving and increasing green spaces around Khlong Lamsai Kai (Romklao Phirohm Park) to provide recreational and exercise areas for community residents. This aligns with the Minister's policy for the National Housing Authority to systematically manage waste and improve the community environment for sustainability, while also emphasizing the need for more green spaces.

Later, the Minister inspected vacant land along the Bangkok-Kritthaya-Romklao road, which has been a dumping ground for waste by outsiders. The National Housing Authority has brought in excavators to level the area and installed signs prohibiting trespassing and dumping. The Lat Krabang District Office has also erected temporary fencing to prevent further dumping.
Moreover, the National Housing Authority has installed five sets of solar-powered CCTV cameras along the streetlight poles, authorized by the Metropolitan Electricity Authority in Lat Krabang, to enhance community safety and protect residents' property. They also plan to develop the vacant land to prevent it from becoming overgrown and to generate income for the organization.

“This visit allowed the Minister to see the real issues and understand the community's needs directly, enabling timely and targeted interventions. This aligns with the National Housing Authority's mission, which is not just about building houses but ultimately creating a quality society and developing smart, livable communities for improved quality of life,” Mr. Thaveepong concluded.
