SCG Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group Moves Forward to Combat Global Heating Towards Net Zero, Driving Business with Low-Carbon Innovations for Sustainability
Many people are likely familiar with the term “Global Warming” to the point where it feels close to home. This has led to significant adaptation and learning. Currently, humanity faces a new challenge known as “Global Boiling”, which is increasingly understood to be at a level of severity that is difficult to remedy. Today, it is undeniable that the weather is becoming increasingly erratic, with rising heat every year and heavy rainfall events (Rain Bombs) causing flash floods and severe flooding in many areas, as well as wildfires, among other issues.

SCG Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group is addressing the global heating crisis with cool homes.
When the outside air is scorching, homes become stifling. Finding solutions through the use of construction materials and decoration to help reduce indoor temperatures is essential for making homes more comfortable. This is a crucial part of reducing carbon emissions while also keeping homes cool and reducing energy consumption simultaneously.
1. Heat-Reflective Roofing
SCG offers ‘New Style Modern Concrete Roof Tiles’ equipped with the X-SHIELD HEATBLOCK innovation, which reflects solar heat radiation up to 3.5 times and can save air conditioning costs by up to 15%. Additionally, heat insulation and heat-reflective sheets from SCG can be used to reduce heat transfer into the home. Ventilation tiles can also be installed, designed based on the principle of natural ventilation to help dissipate heat under the roof, complemented by ventilated smart boards to effectively replace hot air with cool air.
2. Heat-Resistant House Walls
House walls are critical points where sunlight directly impacts, and the heat accumulated in the walls gradually disperses into the home. This issue can be resolved by using exterior decorative materials, such as installing Cool Plus siding with Color Lock Plus technology to reflect heat, or using insulation for walls to prevent external heat from entering the home.
3. Increase Green Spaces Around the Home
Adding green spaces around the home is another way to filter heat. Planting trees provides shade and creates a relaxing atmosphere. Not only does this help freshen the air, but it is also a simple method suitable for homes with sufficient space, allowing for small relaxation areas for family members.
SCG Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group is committed to supporting the SDGs and seriously guiding the organization towards Net Zero Carbon.
In the Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group, we are advancing according to SCG's core policies, developing new products, services, and solutions for better living while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our key goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 25% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. This is one of the challenges that requires organizational-level changes and every step of the production process, from upstream to downstream of the supply chain, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote efficient resource use, while also considering the health and safety of customers. All products are 100% free from asbestos, including recycling materials for valuable resource reuse, and developing products under the “Green Choice” group designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy, and ensure safety for residents. The Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group has already begun implementing these initiatives.
- Utilizing low-carbon raw materials in product manufacturing, such as SCG Low Carbon cement, which recycles waste materials from the production process and external waste to replace natural raw materials.
- Using clean energy for 20% of the production process, such as solar panels and electric forklifts for moving raw materials and products.
- Using biomass energy, accounting for 40%, which reduces CO2 emissions by 43,779 kgCO2*.
* Data from January – June 2024
- Using recycled raw materials from both internal and external sources, accounting for 13%, such as concrete scraps, stone dust, and fly ash.
- Achieving waste-to-value of up to 81% by transforming and improving waste from processes into raw materials for other industries, such as agriculture and construction.
- Furthermore, the Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group has expanded the Goodbye Waste brand, producing home decor and minimalist design products with an eco-friendly concept, using waste from the roof tile production process, such as ceramic roof scraps, concrete roof scraps, and fiber cement roof scraps as 20% of the raw materials.
In addition to environmental concerns, the Roofing, Ceiling, Insulation, and Construction Materials Group continues to reduce health impacts according to SCG's core policies by eliminating the use of asbestos in all construction material production processes for the safety of residents, users, and installers, and to reduce health risks associated with asbestos exposure, which has been found to cause respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and pleural inflammation, among other issues.
With the concept of developing products, services, and solutions in every dimension from production processes to consumers, SCG continues to strive towards the goal of being a Net Zero organization, reducing environmental impacts and being a key driver that leads the business into a future that is friendly to the planet, while also conveying care and providing good health and safety in living environments, with all products being 100% free from asbestos, enhancing value sustainably for society.
