National Housing Authority Opens Two More Temporary Shelters to Assist Flood Victims in Chiang Mai
Mr. Thaveepong Vichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority stated that following the policy of Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, all agencies under the Ministry have been instructed to open various facilities such as shelters for the homeless, affordable housing projects, highland development centers, and child and family homes, totaling 34 locations across 13 provinces. Among these, the National Housing Authority has established three temporary shelters in Chiang Rai, which can accommodate a total of 250 flood victims: the Chiang Rai Affordable Housing Project (Rim Kok) can host 50 people, while the Chiang Rai Affordable Housing Projects (Mae Sai 1 and Mae Sai 2) can accommodate 100 people each. Currently, residents in northern provinces, including Chiang Mai and particularly Lampang, are facing severe flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall, affecting 15 districts.
In response, the National Housing Authority has set up two additional temporary shelters in Chiang Mai: the Chiang Mai Affordable Housing Project (Nong Hoi) can accommodate 20 people, and the Chiang Mai Affordable Housing Project (San Phi Suea) can host 150 people. When combined with the shelters in Chiang Rai, the total capacity for flood victims provided by the National Housing Authority is 320 people, with plans to consider additional areas for further assistance as the situation evolves.

Additionally, the National Housing Authority has established a flood management operations center at its headquarters, which serves as a hub for distributing assistance to various areas. This includes planning for temporary shelters, setting up kitchens to provide cooked meals and clean drinking water, and preparing essential supplies such as medicine and sanitary products for bedridden patients. These supplies will be sent to flood management operation centers in different provinces, with two currently established in Chiang Mai and Nakhon Sawan, with further centers to be considered. Establishing local centers will enhance coordination with government agencies, private sectors, civil society, and the public to provide timely assistance, as they will have access to information about water flow and levels, enabling prompt problem-solving and response to the situation.

For affected citizens, temporary shelters provided by the National Housing Authority are available at all times, offering cooked meals and drinking water. Flood victims can stay at these shelters in any area where the National Housing Authority and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security have opened assistance centers. For urgent issues, individuals can contact the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security hotline at 1300, available 24 hours a day, or the Call Center at 1615 for additional coordination. Furthermore, updates on the flooding situation can be followed on the National Housing Authority's Facebook page.
