Wimut-Tephatharin Hospital Challenges Diabetics Nationwide with the 'Control D(M) Challenge: Achieve and Win' Program
Wimut-Tephatharin Hospital reinforces its role as a model for diabetes care in Thailand. The Diabetes, Thyroid, and Endocrinology Center at Tephatharin has gathered a team of specialized doctors, nutritionists, and interdisciplinary professionals to launch the Control D(M) Challenge: Achieve and Win 2024. This initiative invites diabetics from across the country to join, aiming to conquer personal challenges by managing blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and cholesterol, undergoing screenings for complications, and participating in educational workshops, all under close evaluation by specialized doctors. The goal is to promote behavioral changes and enable individuals to live happily with diabetes while raising awareness in society about the dangers that lurk nearby.

Dr. Somkiat Lalitwongsa, Director of Wimut-Tephatharin Hospital, stated that statistics show a continuous increase in diabetes cases in Thailand, with 300,000 new patients reported in 2023 (according to the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health). This rising number indicates that many individuals still lack access to appropriate treatment. Therefore, as a leading hospital in diabetes care, we initiated the Control D(M) Challenge: Achieve and Win in 2023 to expand service opportunities for the growing diabetic population and to support them in acquiring the knowledge necessary for proper self-care. Participants from across the country will receive consultations to plan their self-care and set goals with doctors at no cost, along with rewards for successful achievements. Last year, 265 individuals participated, and due to the positive feedback, we are continuing the program in 2024.

“The work of Wimut-Tephatharin Hospital goes beyond just treatment; we prioritize public benefit as one of our missions. We aim to raise awareness and educate the public to prevent diabetes and related chronic diseases. Additionally, we expand our services to include lifestyle adjustments to help individuals live a quality life with diabetes happily,”

Dr. Ekalak Vanothayaroj, Director of the Diabetes, Thyroid, and Endocrinology Center at Tephatharin, mentioned that the Control D(M) Challenge: Achieve and Win program adheres to standards for diabetes care, which includes setting self-care goals. These goals encompass managing various aspects such as average blood sugar (A1C), blood pressure (BP), cholesterol levels (LDL-C), smoking cessation, and undergoing screenings for complications related to the eyes, kidneys, feet, and heart. Participants will also meet with an interdisciplinary team, including diabetes educators, nutritionists, foot care specialists, and exercise experts, all working together to provide compassionate care and find treatment approaches that suit each individual's lifestyle. The program also includes standard activities for diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) to encourage diabetics to participate in their own care, delay complications, and improve their quality of life.
The Control D(M) Challenge: Achieve and Win 2024 is now accepting applications from all types of diabetics (except those with gestational diabetes) at no cost from today until August 31, 2024, with the following rules:
1. Set goals as determined by the attending physician, such as managing average blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and quitting smoking.
2. Undergo complete screenings for diabetes complications within the year, including eye, kidney, foot, and heart examinations.
3. Receive consultations from the interdisciplinary team, such as diabetes educators, nutritionists, or participate in DSMES training.
**Participants who comply with the rules and conditions will be eligible for various rewards based on criteria.**
