"CW Tower" Takes a Serious Approach to Achieve Zero Waste to Landfill, Collaborates with Partners for Sustainable Environmental Ideas
The trend of environmental conservation is gaining importance among leading organizations, with campaigns aimed at raising awareness among all stakeholders and educating the general public through tangible actions. CW Tower is another organization that continuously prioritizes conducting business alongside environmental care. It has also campaigned to disseminate environmental knowledge to the building's personnel and tenants, aiming for participants in activities to gain insights from the comprehensive content displayed in various projects undertaken by the building. Furthermore, it encourages changes in inappropriate behaviors by applying the knowledge gained in daily life. This time, CW Tower partnered with business allies to organize the CW GO GREEN DAY event, themed "Creating a Sustainable Environment," featuring environmental management experts sharing their experiences from their organizations with tangible results.

Mr. Kirati Kosiyacharoen, Assistant Manager and Head of Social Activity Management Group, Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) stated that SET promotes businesses to prioritize the concept of sustainable organizational development, or Environment, Social Governance (ESG). In today's business landscape, one cannot solely focus on profits; it is essential to consider three main factors simultaneously: environment, society, and governance. This has led to the emergence of environmental projects, including the Care the Bear campaign, which encourages the adoption of six practical behaviors in daily life, and calculates carbon footprints to measure net zero outcomes. The Care the Whale project promotes the segregation of seven types of waste to reduce waste volume and minimize environmental issues caused by the mixing of wet and dry waste. The Care the Wild project raises funds to plant trees and care for forests, restoring existing forests and increasing economic forest areas. It invites over 800 registered companies in the stock exchange to recognize the importance and voluntarily participate in these projects.

Dr. Pornpoot Jarumongkolsak, Managing Director of Business Expansion and Development, ONNEX Smart Building Solution, SCG mentioned that waste disposal is not limited to visible waste; there is also invisible waste mixed in the air that affects everyone. SCG fully supports reducing the amount of invisible waste within buildings by developing smart technologies that enhance quality of life sustainably. The Air Scrubber technology helps maintain fresh indoor air quality by filtering out pollutants and volatile substances, ensuring a consistently fresh and pure indoor environment while also reducing electricity costs by easing the cooling load on air conditioning systems, thus extending their lifespan.
Mr. Sanit Lai-Jaroen, Director of Safety and Environmental, PTG Energy Public Company Limited stated that PTG has been implementing various environmental conservation initiatives under the 3R principle: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for over ten years. In 2024, there are seven main projects, including: 1) Supporting hill tribe communities in Chiang Mai to increase coffee cultivation, aiming for 32,000 rai by 2027; 2) Reserving 90 rai for mangrove planting in Krabi; 3) Supporting clean energy by increasing electric vehicle charging stations from 42 to 712 by 2027; 4) Reducing electricity usage at service stations by installing Solar Roofs, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 13,420 tons if 1,200 stations are installed by 2027; 5) Establishing a biomass waste power plant in Hat Yai, with a 20-year power supply contract with the Provincial Electricity Authority; 6) Partnering with allied companies for waste segregation, using some as fuel in cement plants; and 7) Collaborating with SCG to create service stations that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase green spaces.

Ms. Natakan Klawuthanan, Managing Director of Oklin (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a leading food waste disposal machine distributor in Thailand stated that in waste segregation, it is found that food waste accounts for up to 64% of total waste daily, creating unsanitary conditions and complicating waste collection due to odors and being a food source for certain animals, becoming a breeding ground for pathogens. Disposing of food waste in landfills mixed with other waste also contributes to methane emissions, a major factor in greenhouse gas production that significantly contributes to global warming. The remaining 36% of waste, if managed through various channels, would leave only 10% of unsegregated waste going to landfills. Achieving zero food waste is the best method, as it not only reduces the amount of waste sent for disposal or landfill but also allows food waste to be converted into plant nutrients or fertilizers.

Mr. Sonti Damrongsilp, Chief Executive Officer of TH Health Co., Ltd., part of Thonburi Healthcare Group Public Company Limited stated that although the company operates in the health sector, it does not want people to fall ill because business profits are not measured in monetary terms but in the ability to coexist in this world without harming the environment while also taking care of health. The main mission of all companies in the Thonburi Healthcare Group is to save lives and the planet by managing the laboratories of all hospitals in the group to ensure safety, especially in handling infectious waste. Additionally, they manage the supply chain for medicines, medical equipment, and supplies, and utilize modern innovations for diagnostics to analyze diseases and trends of severe illnesses in the future, aiming for preventive diagnosis to avoid facing illnesses, thus contributing to a better world for future generations.

On the other hand, Mr. Nakrob Kulpanit, General Manager of CW Tower and moderator of this discussion stated that CW Tower emphasizes practical implementation and achieving clear results. Creating a sustainable good environment cannot happen without cooperation from all sectors. In the past, CW Tower has received excellent cooperation from tenant companies in the Perks from Trash campaign for waste segregation and recycling. Additionally, it has joined the Care the Bear, Care the Whale, and Care the Wild projects of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, emphasizing that the success of an organization should not be evaluated solely based on profits but should also prioritize sustainable coexistence in society. Currently, the building has installed food waste disposal machines and organized campaigns to raise public awareness about the importance of continuous environmental conservation.
In addition to the discussion, which was the main highlight of CW GO GREEN DAY, the event also featured exhibitions and booths providing knowledge about environmental conservation, sales of eco-friendly products from tenants, partners, and event sponsors, a green market offering special discounts for buyers bringing their own containers and bags, and a workshop for making clear candles from waste, along with free plant nutrients from food waste and vegetable seeds for participants.
