S Hotels and Resorts Emphasizes Eco-Luxury Experiences, Reinforcing Leadership in Sustainable Tourism
Imagine a holiday where you not only enjoy a blissful retreat amidst stunning surroundings but also actively participate in environmental conservation and harmoniously engage with the local community.
This vision has led S Hotels and Resorts (SHR), a hotel and resort management and investment company under Singha Estate Public Company Limited, to drive a new perspective on tourism that stands out and differs by prioritizing green tourism, a crucial factor for the growing segment of environmentally conscious travelers.
Michael Marshall, CEO of S Hotels and Resorts Public Company Limited, stated, “S Hotels and Resorts has been promoting green tourism since the company's inception, and we take pride in being a leader in this tourism trend.”

Enhancing the value of unique travel and leisure experiences, along with creating activities that allow tourists to reduce and offset their environmental impact, are the pathways for S Hotels and Resorts to present a new innovative perspective on tourism in Thailand, aiming to elevate the country to a world-class destination.
Moreover, S Hotels and Resorts is a leader in the tourism industry, advancing towards “responsible tourism” by promoting green tourism through its hotels and resorts in Thailand and the Maldives.
Highlighting two key aspects: Eco-Luxury Experience: luxurious and environmentally friendly relaxation, and Ecotourism: learning about nature and local culture.
- Eco-Luxury Experience: Luxurious and Environmentally Friendly Relaxation
When discussing tourism that does not negatively impact the environment, the image of luxury, comfort, and quality service may not be the first that comes to mind for many. However, today, leaders in the luxury hotel sector worldwide are beginning to integrate sustainability into various details, from using renewable energy to sourcing local ingredients from sustainable producers.
For hotels under S Hotels and Resorts in Thailand and the Maldives, there are numerous initiatives for environmental conservation, such as reducing single-use plastics, creating water production systems, and providing refillable water stations for guests at hotels. Additionally, at SAii Maldives, solar energy is utilized on the rooftops of guest rooms, along with water treatment systems, electric vehicles, eco-friendly bathroom amenities, and the use of local products. Meanwhile, the lifestyle resort “SAii Resorts” includes four locations: SAii Phi Phi Island Village, SAii Laguna Phuket, SAii Koh Samui Choengmon, and Maldives SAii Lagoon, all constructed and decorated with nature-friendly materials while maintaining luxurious comfort. Each element emphasizes design inspired by local art and craftsmanship, combined with concepts of nature conservation and social responsibility, reinforcing S Hotels and Resorts' commitment to conducting business alongside environmental care and sustainability.

- Ecotourism: Learning from Nature and Local Culture
Spending time in destinations known for their unique natural beauty or located in biodiverse areas presents a significant opportunity for tourists to learn about environmental conservation while being close to nature. Today, leading hotels have begun offering nature exploration activities as part of their recreational offerings, allowing guests to experience the local flora and fauna.
Hotels under S Hotels and Resorts organize nature trail activities, guiding tourists through biodiverse natural areas both on land and in water, providing knowledge and fostering a sense of responsibility for environmental preservation that they can share with others at Santiburi Koh Samui and SAii Phi Phi Island Village. Additionally, a Marine Discovery Centre (MDC) has been established at SAii Phi Phi Island Village and the CROSSROADS Maldives project in the Maldives to serve as a learning resource for those interested in marine ecosystems and sustainable tourism.

The CROSSROADS Maldives project has also signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Maldives Ministry of Climate Change, Environment & Energy to jointly preserve the natural environment of the Maldives sustainably, covering over 31% of the total project area. This is part of a conservation plan for Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) to promote biodiversity conservation. Furthermore, the Marine Discovery Centre created by S Hotels and Resorts features exhibition spaces both indoors and outdoors, divided into five learning zones focused on coral biodiversity, conservation breeding, and training divers to safely enjoy the underwater scenery while protecting marine life. A coral conservation area of 64,000 square meters has also been established, reserved from construction or tourism activities to protect the marine ecosystem in the Maldives, which is home to some of the richest coral reefs in the world.

For the Green Traveler segment, who are environmentally conscious and responsible, energy conservation, and increasing green spaces are priorities. When this group travels, they consider destinations with good environmental management, and contributing positively to the area can influence their decision to visit. We are confident that the activities we have prepared will strongly attract this group of travelers, making S Hotels and Resorts a top destination for Green Travelers. Additionally, we hope that the activities organized by the company will inspire tourists to adopt environmentally considerate practices to create positive impacts on communities and society.
Michael concluded, “With the belief that business must grow alongside the sustainability of nature and the quality of life of communities, wherever we expand our business, we must foster growth in that area. S Hotels and Resorts aims for all hotels in the group to achieve international sustainability certification for tourism and hotel operators, as well as to pursue long-term carbon neutrality goals and enhance biodiversity, becoming a center for creating quality communities in line with Singha Estate's commitment to sustainable value and growth.”
