"Digital Lottery" Marks 1 Year, Allowing Thais to Purchase Tickets at 80 Baht, Over 20 Million Tickets Sold per Draw, Expanding Sales Channels for Small Vendors
The Government Lottery Office and Krung Thai Bank have announced the success of the 1-year anniversary of the "Digital Lottery" on the Paotang app, enabling Thais to access lottery tickets priced at 80 Baht over 20 million times each month. This initiative has expanded sales channels for over 38,000 small vendors nationwide. It has been reported that more than 1 million people have won prizes, with total winnings exceeding 17 billion Baht.
Mr. Lawaron Saengsanit, Chairman of the Government Lottery Office stated that the buying and selling of "Digital Lottery" through the "Paotang" application first began on June 2, 2022 (for the draw on June 16, 2022) with 5 million tickets priced at 80 Baht each. This was aimed at addressing the issue of overpriced lottery tickets while also verifying the age of buyers to prevent sales to those under 20 years old. Additionally, winners can receive their prize money within 2 hours after the results are announced, greatly enhancing convenience for lottery buyers.
Since the launch of the lottery draw on June 16, 2022, until the draw on June 16, 2023, there have been over 5.8 million digital lottery buyers, with a total of 356 million digital tickets sold, amounting to over 28 billion Baht. These sales have come from over 38,000 small lottery vendors nationwide. This year, it is expected that at least 25 million digital tickets will be sold on the Paotang app per draw, up from the current 18.6 million tickets per draw, based on the actual demand of the public.
A total of 1,135,099 individuals have won digital lottery prizes, with 5,045,409 tickets winning prizes, amounting to over 17 billion Baht. There have been 165 first prize winners, with one individual purchasing 19 tickets through the Paotang app on April 16, 2023, winning a total of 114 million Baht.
In July 2023, a new feature called “QR for Selling Digital Lottery” will be launched to provide a new buying and selling channel for digital lottery buyers and vendors, allowing them to purchase tickets in a Face-to-Face manner through the “Tung Ngern” app directly from digital lottery vendors. Buyers can select the tickets they want from stores and use the Paotang app to scan and purchase tickets and make payments immediately.
As for the 6-digit lottery (L6) and the 3-digit lottery (N3), the guidelines for defining the types and formats of the lottery are currently under consideration to be presented to the Cabinet for approval again.
Mr. Phayong Srivanich, CEO of Krung Thai Bank stated that the “Digital Lottery” on the Paotang app reflects the success of the Government Lottery Office and Krung Thai Bank. The app's features, developed by Infinitas by Krung Thai, have made it a Thailand Open Digital Platform, accessible and easy for everyone to use, thus serving as a buying and selling channel that meets the needs of both buyers and sellers. It has become a hub for a large number of buyers, with over 40 million users. Nevertheless, Krung Thai Bank will continue to enhance the efficiency of the Paotang app to support the operations of the lottery office, improving transaction capabilities, developing an automatic prize redemption system for greater convenience for winners, and facilitating payment systems for lottery vendors through the app. Additionally, in collaboration with the Blind Association of Thailand, a feature called “Screen Reader” or Voice Assistant will be developed to assist visually impaired individuals in accessing the buying and selling of digital lottery tickets through the Paotang and Tung Ngern apps conveniently and quickly.
