TCMA and VST Join Forces to Showcase Readiness to Combat Global Warming at the National Engineering Event 2022
As the world continues to warm, leading to significant and severe changes in our surroundings, a major contributor to this phenomenon is greenhouse gases resulting from human activities. Therefore, addressing global warming, which is an urgent global issue, must tackle the root cause: everyone needs to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in every possible activity, starting from the household level, through national efforts, and extending to the global community.
Mr. Chana Phumi, President of the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA) stated that TCMA is part of the driving force to combat global warming at the National Engineering Event 2022, promoting the concept “Together for Our World: Uniting to Combat Global Warming...Reducing Greenhouse Gases.” The goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 to sustainably address the global warming crisis, showcasing the innovation of “hydraulic cement” that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and is environmentally friendly, from November 3-5, 2022, at Plenary Rooms 1-3, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
The event will feature discussions demonstrating readiness to drive down greenhouse gas emissions using hydraulic cement, along with plans from the government, professional sectors, industry, and education to seriously push for solutions to global warming. This will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 3:00 PM on the main stage, aiming to transform Thai construction with low-carbon cement (hydraulic cement) that will lead to achieving the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning into Thailand’s New Era of Low Carbon Cement by 2024. Additionally, there will be presentations on the concrete progress made by all stakeholders in reducing greenhouse gas emissions at TCMA's exhibition booth number 40.

The cement industry plays a crucial role in developing Thailand's infrastructure, and when combined with related construction industries, it accounts for about 7% of the country's GDP. Over the past five years, the domestic demand for cement has been approximately 30-35 million tons per year.
“With the increasing use of cement each year, the traditional cement production process (Portland cement) cannot adequately address the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. This has led to TCMA's commitment to encourage members to research and develop low-carbon cement using modern technology, environmentally friendly production processes, and standard products that help reduce greenhouse gases, known as “hydraulic cement” (TIS 2594), which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 40 kilograms per ton of cement compared to traditional cement. Thus, it is simply referred to as low-carbon cement, and it is now being used in place of traditional cement. TCMA continues to implement plans to raise awareness and stimulate full-scale usage to transition into Thailand’s New Era of Low Carbon Cement by 2024,” Mr. Chana stated.
In addition to participating in the National Engineering Event 2022, TCMA is also driving greenhouse gas reduction on international platforms. The cement industry is the first in Thailand to develop the Thailand Net Zero Cement & Concrete Roadmap 2050, supported by the Global Cement & Concrete Association (GCCA), and will present it at COP 27 from November 6-18, 2022, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
We invite you to join us in demonstrating our commitment to combat global warming, Change for Good, alongside TCMA at the National Engineering Event 2022, the largest engineering technology exhibition and seminar of the year, organized by the Engineering Institute of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, from November 3-5, 2022, at Plenary Rooms 1-3, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
