Mr. Yann Phokthap, Chief Executive Officer of Central Retail Corporation Public Company Limited, stated, "Central Retail is genuinely committed to creating and passing on a livable world for future generations, fully driving the organization to become Thailand's first Green & Sustainable Retail entity. We adhere to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Bio-Circular-Green Economy (BCG) framework, and Environmental-Social-Governance (ESG) principles as the foundation for our CRC ReNEW strategy. This strategy aims to promote exponential business growth alongside sustainable organizational development, covering all dimensions of our business group. Central Retail has set a long-term goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, along with short-term goals for 2030 as follows:

  1. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% (Reduce Greenhouse Gases)
  2. Generate income for communities of 5.4 billion baht per year (Navigate Well-being Society)
  3. Utilize 100% eco-friendly packaging (Eco-friendly Packaging)
  4. Manage waste and reduce food waste by 30% (Waste Management)

To achieve these short-term and long-term goals, Central Retail has emphasized four practical approaches under the CRC ReNEW strategy, which has been implemented seriously and continuously, and will enhance the following actions:

  1. Reduce Greenhouse Gases by implementing the following practices:
    • Increase the use of clean energy by installing solar panels on the rooftops of shopping centers and stores in Thailand and Vietnam, aiming to replace up to 30% of electricity consumption with solar energy by 2026.
    • Transition to low-carbon logistics by using electric trucks (EV Trucks) for product transportation.
    • Employ energy-saving technologies in various forms, such as energy-efficient chillers and electric tricycles.
    • Promote the use of electric vehicles by installing EV Charging Stations for customers at shopping centers in Thailand and Vietnam.
    • Combat deforestation by refraining from supporting products and suppliers involved in deforestation within the supply chain.

In 2021, a total of 438 individuals were employed, and the company promotes local community economies and enhances quality of life through the "Jing Jai Farmers’ Market" project, covering 24 provinces and assisting 24,000 farmers across 624 communities and 6,620 households, resulting in a threefold increase in household income and generating over 220 million baht in annual income for farmers.

3. Eco-friendly Packaging: Using Environmentally Friendly Packaging through the following practices:

  • Expand the "Love the Earth" campaign by increasing the use of Green Products that are eco-friendly, made from recycled materials, natural materials, or durable quality materials to replace single-use materials and packaging, while also reducing plastic waste. In 2021, we reduced plastic bag usage by a total of 160 million bags.

4. Waste Management: Efficient Resource Use to reduce waste sent to landfills, incineration, pollution, and leakage into the environment throughout the supply chain through the following practices:

  • Reduce food loss and food waste from the source, including redistributing surplus food that is still consumable to vulnerable groups and managing food waste through composting and producing biogas for community use.
  • Enhance plastic waste management with the 'No Waste Bottle' project, allowing PET plastic bottles to be reused and transformed into products that can create jobs and income for communities.
  • Elevate the "Journey to Zero" project, promoting zero waste, encouraging positive behaviors among customers and employees to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and providing waste sorting points while promoting the reuse of recyclable materials.
