The social enterprise brand “Doi Tung,” under the auspices of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, in collaboration with Central Chidlom, is hosting the event “Doi Tung Market @ Central Chidlom” under the concept “From Highland Craftsmanship to Timeless Luxury.” This event highlights luxury with purpose through community craftsmanship, contemporary design, and products that emphasize sourcing, materials, production processes, and environmental impact. It will also feature activities in the form of a Carbon Neutral Event, alongside efforts to recycle and upcycle used materials. The event will take place from July 21 to August 2, 2026, at The Event Hall, 2nd floor, Central Chidlom.

Mr. Prasert Trongjaroenkiat, Chairman of the Social Business Division of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, stated that this event aims to convey the social business philosophy of Doi Tung, which uses product development as a tool to create jobs and income for the community while preserving traditional craftsmanship. The focus is on selecting materials, designing for longevity, repurposing waste materials into new value, and developing production processes that use resources efficiently, reduce environmental impact, and return value to nature and the community.

“One of the key approaches is assessing the carbon footprint of products, or Carbon Footprint of Product (CFP), which evaluates greenhouse gas emissions throughout the product lifecycle, from raw material acquisition, production processes, distribution, consumer usage, related transportation, to waste management after the product's life cycle. This data helps Doi Tung identify areas for development and concrete reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, while continuously seeking ways to lower the carbon footprint, aiming to become a Low Carbon Brand that benefits the community, nature, and the environment in the long term,” Mr. Prasert said.

At the event, attendees will find highlighted products that reflect responsible design and production, from selecting materials that reduce the use of new resources to repurposing waste materials into new value, while maintaining quality, utility, and the uniqueness of community craftsmanship.

Starting with recycled plastic fiber rugs from the marine animal collection, made from recycled plastic fibers sourced from ocean waste, the design is inspired by marine animals. The fibers are durable, less prone to fraying, and collect less dust than conventional fibers, transforming discarded materials into valuable and meaningful designs.

Another product line includes bags and hats made from Doi Tung's recycled plastic fibers, which are created by melting and spinning used PET bottles into 100% synthetic fibers. Each bag can help repurpose approximately 9 plastic bottles, and the materials are lightweight, strong, quick-drying, and easy to maintain, combined with colors, patterns, and craftsmanship from the community to create lifestyle items for everyday use.

For fashion enthusiasts, Doi Tung Nature to Wear incorporates traditional hand-weaving wisdom into contemporary shapes and tailoring, resulting in wearable clothing for daily life. Natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and hemp are used, along with dyes from natural materials and local waste, including onion skins, coffee grounds, macadamia charcoal, indigo, logwood, pegs, and lac, enhancing the value of existing materials while creating unique color shades.

The event will also launch DOITUNG EVERYDAY, a lifestyle brand that brings community craftsmanship into fun, easy-to-use designs that are more accessible to the younger generation, under the concept “From DOI… to JOY in everyday life.” It features quality fabrics from existing material stocks combined with Doi Tung handwoven fabrics, significantly reducing the use of new fabric by over 2,000 yards and creating new value from existing materials through small items and bags for daily life, such as fabric hair ties (Scrunchies), eye masks, wireless earbud pouches (AirPods Pouch), passport holders, reversible tote bags (Flippa Tote Bag), and compact crossbody bags (Paphi Crossbody Bag).

In addition to products reflecting sustainability, the event will showcase the charm of Doi Tung, allowing attendees to experience, taste, shop, and learn about handwoven textiles, silverware, ceramics, home decor, plants and flowers from the Doi Tung development project, as well as Northern Thai cuisine from the royal kitchen, Doi Tung coffee, uniquely designed ice cream, and activities for all ages, such as Doi Tung Everyday Embroidery, wildlife footprint tracking, and a Sustainable Settlement Board Game.

Moreover, the environmental concept extends to the event's organization through Carbon Neutral Event & Upcycled Activity, where Doi Tung will assess and offset greenhouse gas emissions from the entire event, while installing PET bottle collection bins for recycling and developing upcycled products, along with bins for used aluminum capsules, under the concept “Turn Waste into Value,” encouraging attendees to see the value of materials and participate in returning resources to the production process.
