Kasikorn Bank Partners with 4 Allies to Launch SolarPlus Project Aiming to Install Solar Roofs for 500,000 Homes Free of Charge
Kasikorn Bank has teamed up with 4 partners including Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd., Supalai Public Company Limited and InnoPower Co., Ltd. to advance the GO GREEN Together initiative, supporting the use of clean energy for the public. They have launched the SolarPlus project, which will install solar roofs for citizens free of charge, allowing them to produce and sell electricity for the first time in Thailand. The pilot project will take place at the Supalai Village with a target of installing 500,000 roofs nationwide within 5 years. A loan amount of 50 billion baht will be prepared for investors, which is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2.3 million tons of CO2 equivalent per year, supporting the Thai people in transitioning to clean energy towards achieving the country's Net Zero goal.

Mr. Pipit Anuknit, Managing Director of Kasikorn Bank revealed that the bank, along with 4 major partners, has launched the SolarPlus project, which aims to encourage Thai people to use clean energy. This initiative addresses the concerns of citizens interested in installing solar roofs but worried about funding. Thus, the SolarPlus project will install solar roofs for citizens at no cost, allowing them to produce and sell electricity for the first time in Thailand. Homeowners will not need to invest in installation or maintenance costs, and they will benefit from a 20% reduction in electricity bills for the electricity generated from the solar panels. The pilot project will begin with Supalai Village, where the bank has provided loans to PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd. to invest in the installation and maintenance of solar roofs for participating citizens. The bank will also purchase all the electricity generated that exceeds the household's usage from this project for use within the Kasikorn Bank group, which is part of the clean energy initiative to enhance the organization's Carbon Handprint.
Furthermore, the bank is preparing a loan amount of 50 billion baht for investors, and this project plans to expand nationwide, aiming to install 500,000 solar roofs within 5 years. It is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2.3 million tons of CO2 equivalent per year. The bank hopes that this project will encourage more Thai people to adopt clean energy and will truly accelerate the creation of a Green Ecosystem in Thai society, leading to achieving the country's Net Zero goal.

Mr. Traitecha Tangmititham, Managing Director of Supalai Public Company Limited stated that the company has prioritized designing energy-efficient housing. The SolarPlus project, in collaboration with Kasikorn Bank, will kick off at Supalai Garden Ville, Rangsit Klong 2, which is a horizontal project with many residents already living there. It is expected to receive significant interest from residents as it helps save electricity for those living in the project.
The company aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 25% within 3 years and is preparing to install solar panels at Supalai Grand Tower, the headquarters, as well as plans to install EV chargers at projects nationwide to support government policies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to achieving global sustainable development goals.

Mr. Khemrat Satpricha, Deputy Governor of the Provincial Electricity Authority and Chairman of the Board of PEA ENCOM International Co., Ltd. stated that the excess electricity from households will be sold back to the grid at a rate of 2.20 baht per unit or traded through Peer to Peer Energy Trading. The company hopes this project will inspire the general public to adopt clean energy by installing solar systems in their homes to save costs and improve the environment.
Dr. Jiraporn Sirikham, Deputy Governor of Strategy at the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand mentioned that in the SolarPlus project, EGAT has incorporated the Peer to Peer Energy Trading platform to create added value for the project. The platform has been developed for ease of use and is expected to become more widespread, allowing for commercial applications to meet consumer needs in the future.
Mr. Athip Tantivorawong, CEO of InnoPower Co., Ltd. stated that the company supports access to clean energy by providing registration services for renewable energy project equipment and trading Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) comprehensively, to increase income for electricity producers from renewable energy and facilitate businesses in achieving clean energy usage goals. The REC is one of the mechanisms that promotes the production and use of electricity from renewable energy and enhances the country's sustainable energy innovation capabilities.
