1.6 Development Partners with End of Waste to Install Thailand's First Food Waste Digester at The Strand Project to Reduce Waste and Convert Food Scraps from Thonglor into a Waste Treatment System Following Health Standards to Mitigate Environmental Issues

1.6 Development Corporation Limited has collaborated with End of Waste Co., Ltd. to install a food waste digester at The Strand Project, the first ultra-luxury mixed-use project in Thailand. This digester will process and convert food scraps from the Thonglor area into liquid ready for waste treatment within a single day, significantly reducing daily waste. This initiative represents a new approach to addressing environmental issues in Bangkok stemming from food waste.

The food waste digester, capable of processing 300 kilograms of food waste daily, will serve restaurants and cafes within the mixed-use project as well as nearby establishments, promoting the quality of life for the surrounding community.

Ms. Thanythip Chiaravanont, CEO of 1.6 Development Corporation Limited, stated, "1.6 Development is very pleased to partner with End of Waste Co., Ltd. to launch the food waste digester on November 11, 2021, at The Strand Project. This service will allow restaurants in the project, residents, and nearby eateries to convert up to 300 kilograms of food waste daily into liquid. This initiative will run for 12 months with the aim of reducing food waste, lowering carbon emissions, decreasing the presence of pests and plant-destroying animals, and minimizing the risk of infections from unsanitary conditions."

This fully automated food waste digester utilizes microorganisms to convert food scraps, such as rice, noodles, vegetables, and even meat with bones, into liquid within 24 hours.

Mr. Popong Shinawatra, Co-founder of End of Waste Co., Ltd., expressed, "We are very proud to collaborate with 1.6 Development in pioneering a new approach to food waste management. Currently, Bangkok recycles only 2% of food waste, while 64% of waste consists of food scraps, most of which end up in landfills, posing a risk of disease transmission."

The food waste digester will channel processed waste into the building's waste and sewage treatment system, flowing into a waste water reservoir for treatment according to health standards. This method of managing food waste is considered a complete recycling system, as it processes waste back into nature in the form of treated water.

Residents and restaurants in the Thonglor area can register to participate in this project at no cost, with the food waste digester located at The Strand Project.
