On March 14, 2019, Mr. Lavaron Sangsnit, Director of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) and spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, revealed the progress of the National e-Payment strategic plan. Several projects are advancing, particularly the PromptPay initiative and the expansion of low-fee electronic card usage as a cash alternative. Currently, there are 46.5 million registrations for all types of PromptPay, with a total of 1.1 billion transactions amounting to 5.8 trillion baht. Additionally, a total of 768,103 electronic payment devices (EDCs) have been installed.

For the next phase, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) will implement the fourth strategic payment system plan (2019 – 2021), focusing on promoting digital payments. This will enhance the payment infrastructure and services to be efficient, secure, cost-effective, and meet the needs of users, including the general public, e-commerce businesses, social commerce, SMEs, and large enterprises, encouraging a reduction in cash and check usage to boost the country's competitive potential and improve access to financial services for citizens.

Furthermore, regarding the development plan for electronic tax systems and transaction documents, after the development of electronic tax invoice (e-tax invoice) and electronic receipt (e-receipt) submission processes to facilitate and streamline operations, the Revenue Department will develop a tax and electronic transaction document system. This will focus on enhancing the infrastructure related to taxpayer databases and data analysis for better service and effective tax guidance.

“In the next phase of the government e-payment project, the Comptroller General's Department will promote comprehensive card usage and expand the database of low-income individuals receiving assistance through the state welfare card and money transfers via the PromptPay system. This will integrate data with other relevant ministries for analysis and evaluation of welfare distribution. Additionally, all agencies will be urged to utilize the e-payment system for payments and receipts through QR code channels,” Mr. Lavaron stated.
