Recently, Mr. Kitti Sunthornmanokul, Managing Director of Quality Construction Products Public Company Limited (Q-CON), a member of the SCG Group, has been awarded the high-efficiency energy-saving label at a ceremony recognizing high-efficiency machinery and equipment manufacturers and energy conservation materials, organized by the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), with the ceremony presided over by Mr. Prapon Wongtharue, Director-General of DEDE.

Mr. Kitti Sunthornmanokul stated that the company produces high-quality lightweight concrete for both domestic and international markets, including non-reinforced types such as all-grade lightweight bricks and reinforced types like precast wall panels, precast floor slabs, sound barrier panels, and precast kitchen counters. Q-CON lightweight bricks have passed testing according to ASTM C177-04 standards from the Energy Research and Testing Center, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, and have received high-efficiency energy-saving labels for all products in both G2 and G4 grades. This means that Q-CON bricks possess insulating properties, effectively blocking external heat from entering and significantly saving energy within buildings.

The receipt of the high-efficiency energy-saving label from DEDE reinforces that Q-CON lightweight bricks are suitable materials for wall construction, as they have a thermal resistance (R-value) 7-14 times greater than other materials such as clay bricks and concrete blocks. This makes them excellent thermal insulators, saving energy and reducing electricity costs more effectively than other wall materials, which is particularly advantageous in tropical countries like Thailand. Additionally, they reduce plastering costs; when comparing material prices plus labor per square meter, lightweight bricks are cheaper than other materials if the same thermal insulation value is desired. This is due to their larger size, faster construction, and the fact that they do not require double-layering like clay bricks that need a gap in the middle for insulation or other materials that require additional insulating materials, which increases construction costs and time. "Using lightweight bricks with a thickness of 10 cm or more will improve heat insulation by up to 30% as the thickness increases," Mr. Kitti concluded.

Q-CON is the first manufacturer in Thailand to receive industrial standard certification, TIS 1505-1998, for all quality grades G2, G4, and G6.
