GSB Excited to Host 'Smart SMEs Smart START UP' for the First Time with Over 5,000 Attendees, Numerous Business Matches, and Funding Requests Exceeding 1 Billion Baht
The Government Savings Bank (GSB) is thrilled to have organized the first-ever 'Smart SMEs Smart START UP' event, which saw over 5,000 attendees over three days. GSB's Director, Mr. Chatchai Payuhanaveechai, revealed that during the event, there were significant requests for SME and Startup loans and venture capital, surpassing 1 billion baht. The bank plans to increase the number of SME customer business centers from 18 to 80 nationwide next year to enhance accessibility and efficiency.
Mr. Chatchai stated that the event, held from December 1-3, 2017, attracted more than 5,000 participants, including many citizens and entrepreneurs seeking consultations on loans and investments. Over 70% of attendees were individuals with innovative ideas looking to expand, while 30% were existing businesses seeking funding for growth. The total loan requests amounted to 154.5 million baht for SMEs and Startups, alongside 900 million baht in venture capital. Additionally, many entrepreneurs expressed interest in training on marketing, finance, and management provided by GSB's business development team.
Furthermore, over 30 businesses sought consultations for investment or venture capital from GSB, primarily in innovation, technology, and renewable energy sectors, with funding requests ranging from 10 to 50 million baht per business.
GSB has allocated approximately 10 billion baht for loans to creative and innovative SMEs and Startups. Currently, the bank has approved nearly 3 billion baht in loans and set aside an additional 2 billion baht for venture capital investments, with over 225 million baht already approved and another 460 million baht in progress.
Mr. Chatchai emphasized that the event's success reflects the government's commitment to promoting startups through the National Startup Committee, with GSB playing a vital role in supporting these businesses and driving economic growth. The bank aims to foster an Innovation Hub in Thailand, helping SMEs and Startups thrive and compete effectively in line with the country's development policy towards Thailand 4.0. New entrepreneurs seeking advice can access services at any GSB branch or at the 18 SME business centers nationwide, which will expand to 80 centers in 2018 to meet current demands.
