The Mall Group Transforms "The Mall Ramkhamhaeng" into a New Cultural Hub of Bangkok, Launches "1981 Soul & Sold" Project
The Mall Group Co., Ltd., as the owner and operator of "The Mall Ramkhamhaeng," has announced a strategic asset repositioning plan for the building, transforming it into a new project named "1981 Soul & Sold." This project is designed to be a new Cultural Hub of Bangkok, integrating commerce, culture, and community into a single space to create a new retail experience that meets the needs of modern consumers. The company has adopted a Project-based Collaboration model, inviting specialists to participate in developing concepts and selecting tenants, while still retaining ownership of the property and managing the building structure, operational systems, and restaurant space on the ground floor of the project.
Ms. Atchara Amphuch, Senior Executive Vice President of The Mall Group Co., Ltd., stated, "This project development reflects significant changes in consumer behavior, as people are increasingly seeking unique products and experiences that carry cultural stories and meanings, rather than mass-produced items. At the same time, the growth of the Vintage, Resale, Collectibles, and Creative Lifestyle markets reflects the expansion of the Cultural Economy, which is driven by stories, culture, and product identity, especially among younger consumers who value Uniqueness, Identity, and Storytelling."

In the context of changes in the retail industry, the company has assessed the long-term potential of the property and defined a strategic development direction for The Mall Ramkhamhaeng to expand its role from Traditional Retail Space to a Cultural Hub under the project name 1981 Soul & Sold, aiming to create a Cultural Retail Ecosystem that aligns with the growth trends of the Resale market and the Cultural Economy. The goal is to connect Retail, Experience, and Community within a single structure to create a clear business model that can sustainably enhance the property's potential while respecting the historical value of the area.
Ms. Atchara emphasized the importance of The Mall Ramkhamhaeng, saying, "The Mall Ramkhamhaeng is the first shopping center of The Mall Group and has been a significant landmark in the Ramkhamhaeng area since 1983. The development of the 1981 Soul & Sold project is therefore a continuation of the historical value of this area, aligning it with the behaviors of modern consumers, creating a space where people can find inspiration, connect with culture, and build a community together."

The 1981 Soul & Sold project is part of a portfolio diversification strategy to accommodate changing consumer behaviors from Transaction-based Retail to Experience & Community-driven Engagement. It aims to enhance asset value through a model that generates high-quality traffic and creates long-term brand differentiation. Currently, the Resale, Vintage, and Cultural Commerce markets are showing signs of global growth, reflecting a transition to an economy that values Story, Sustainability, and Identity. The "1981 Soul & Sold" project is designed as a Curated Cultural Platform that brings together specialized entrepreneurs and brands across various categories, such as Vintage Fashion, Creative Works, Art, Lifestyle, and Collectibles, to create a retail experience that stands apart from conventional shopping centers. The development goal of the project is to enhance asset value, generate high-quality traffic, and create long-term brand differentiation."

Under this approach, The Mall Group is open to collaboration with specialists in a Project-based Collaboration format to jointly develop concepts and select entrepreneurs. The company will continue to own the property and manage the overall project. For the development of concepts and tenant selection, The Mall Group has invited Mr. Chiva Lapinthangsutthi, an expert in the Retro and Resale markets, to serve as the Retail Curator for the project.
Mr. Chiva Lapinthangsutthi, Retail Curator of the 1981 Soul & Sold project, stated, "The concept for the project is A New-stalgia Marketplace & Culture Hub, which involves reinterpreting memories or cultures from the past to fit the present, such as reinterpreting the Retro and Vintage trends in the context of contemporary lifestyles. The 1981 Soul & Sold project will be a Cultural Hub for fashion, lifestyle, and creative works that integrates Curated Retail, Specialty Vendors, Pop-ups, Workshops, and Collaborative Events to create a new ecosystem of contemporary culture."
The project consists of 8 main areas designed to connect various fashion business categories, including:
- Fashion & Accessories
- Music & Media
- Analog & Tech Nostalgia
- Art, Craft & Design
- Collectibles & Memorabilia
- Lifestyle Services
- Food & Beverage
Overall, the 1981 Soul & Sold project will become a new Cultural Hub of Bangkok, connecting entrepreneurs, collectors, and consumers with specific interests, while creating a different urban space from conventional shopping centers and adding long-term value to the Ramkhamhaeng area. The project is currently in the development and tenant selection phase, with an expected opening in 2026.
