"Nippon Paint" continues its CSR mission – Colouring Lives, with the goal of using the power of color to create a safer city for pedestrians. In collaboration with "Bangkok", they are launching the "Walk with Colours" project, utilizing high-quality Nippon Paint Traffic Paint to design and paint pedestrian walkways around schools in four communities. The pilot project covers a total distance of 1,720 meters, equating to an area of 1,118 square meters, with a project value of over 2 million baht, aimed at improving the quality of life for over 135,000 residents in Bangkok, including students and community members.

Mr. Watchara Sirithichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coating (Thailand) Co., Ltd., along with company representatives, delivered paint to support the "Walk with Colours" project to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, received 300 liters of Nippon Paint Traffic Paint, an innovative road paint known for its clarity and durability, valued at over 2 million baht.

Mr. Watchara revealed that the "Walk with Colours" project is an initiative by Nippon Paint, driven by a vision to create a livable city for everyone. This time, Nippon Paint is introducing a design featuring dark blue and white pedestrian walkways, adorned with the mascots "Nippon" and "Safety Walker" painted along the edges of roads in various communities in Bangkok. Additionally, signage indicating pedestrian pathways will be installed along the walkways to ensure clear visibility for both pedestrians and vehicle users, enhancing safety for community members walking along the road.

In selecting the areas, Nippon Paint collaborated with the BMA and relevant district offices to identify four schools: Amphawan School in Dusit District, Wat Noi Noppakhun School in Dusit District, Wat Pradittharam School in Thonburi District, and Wat Bangsakae School in Thonburi District as pilot locations. The BMA's Traffic and Transport Office, along with volunteers from Nippon Paint, will work together to paint the pedestrian pathways according to the design, with completion expected by 2025. The project aims to use schools as focal points to enhance the safety of youth, anticipating that Nippon Paint's safe walking paths will protect over 1,140 students, teachers, and school staff from road accidents, benefiting over 135,000 community members who share these pathways.

Regarding the principles behind Nippon Paint's decision to create the "Walk with Colours" project, Mr. Watchara stated that it stems from Nippon Paint's desire to develop the city with the BMA in ways that genuinely address community issues. After studying various aspects, they found data from the National Statistical Office indicating that Thailand experiences an average of 2,500 to 2,900 pedestrian accidents annually, with one-third of these, or approximately 900 incidents, occurring in Bangkok.

As a result, Nippon Paint, as a brand of high-quality innovative paint from Japan, has chosen to adapt the concept of safe community road design from Japan for the alleys in Bangkok. By marking and painting to create pedestrian pathways, they aim to ensure that students can walk safely. This model of city design, which facilitates walking, will help establish a strong community foundation, as reduced accidents on walkways will encourage more community members to walk, promoting healthier populations, reducing pollution from vehicle use, and fostering better community interactions.

All of Nippon Paint's social projects worldwide adhere to the concept of "Colouring Lives," which is a global brand philosophy emphasizing that social projects must create tangible positive impacts for communities. These projects are linked to one of three pillars: Education, Empowerment, or Engagement. The "Walk with Colours" project exemplifies engagement, as the brand actively participates in improving the well-being and health of the community sustainably.

"Nippon Paint believes that 'color' is not merely a tool for beautification; it possesses the immense power to create social change. We take great pride in participating in this project to enhance pedestrian safety in Bangkok, collaborating from the design phase to the volunteer painting efforts in the community. We commit to continuing this mission to improve quality of life and create walkable cities for Thai society," Mr. Watchara concluded.
