Bangkok Opens 'Hawker Center Lumpini' Food Court with LINE MAN Wongnai Supporting Vendor Technology to Elevate Thai Street Food to New Standards - Soft Opening Today
Bangkok has launched the 'Hawker Center Lumpini,' a street food court designed for everyone, representing a new model for elevating Thai street food to modern urban standards. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has designed and invested in comprehensive infrastructure, including organized selling areas and dining zones that are convenient, clean, and efficiently managed. LINE MAN Wongnai has been brought in to systematically support restaurant technology, with a soft opening starting today.

The Hawker Center Lumpini features over 100 street food vendors in a managed environment, rotating stalls according to time slots. This initiative allows small street food operators in the Pathum Wan area to access prime locations at affordable rental prices, while also alleviating the cost of living for locals with reasonably priced food. The center aims to enhance cleanliness, safety, and service standards while preserving the charm of Thai street food, aligning with Bangkok's goal of systematizing street food standards alongside health and hygiene measures to ensure the public has access to clean, safe food in suitable environments.

Governor Chatchart Sitthiphan stated, "Street food is one of Bangkok's key identities, but to elevate it to meet modern city standards, we must start with 'infrastructure and design.' The Hawker Center project has been developed as a model space that invests in public utilities, hygiene, and systematic management. Selling areas are organized into distinct zones based on product types and clearly defined dining areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and accommodate a large number of users in the same space, especially in Lumpini Park, which attracts a diverse crowd throughout the day, from runners and aerobics participants to medical personnel and office workers. Meanwhile, private sector partners like LINE MAN Wongnai enhance this with restaurant technology, enabling small street food operators to trade more efficiently, making the Hawker Center not just a food selling space but a new urban economic infrastructure that tangibly integrates traditional identity with improved standards."

Weerapong Ko, Managing Director of On-Demand Services at LINE MAN Wongnai, remarked, "LINE MAN Wongnai has been part of the Thai restaurant scene for over 16 years. We see that small street vendors have potential but lack the tools and suitable spaces. The Hawker Center is an opportunity for us to support LINE Pay QR BOX, allowing vendors to receive instant notifications when money comes in, know their balance immediately, and not worry about errors or counterfeit slips. At the same time, customers can pay easily and confidently. We also provide essential equipment for vendors, such as plates, cutlery, trash bins, handwashing stations, dishwashing areas, shop decorations, and waiting areas for riders, ensuring a clean, organized space that meets real usage needs. This helps small shops break free from previous limitations, elevate standards, and grow from 'good street food' into a robust urban food economy with standards that expand opportunities beyond today. LINE MAN Wongnai continues to collaborate with Bangkok to create quality public spaces, aligning with our goal of improving the quality of life for all Thais in every dimension."

The Hawker Center Lumpini, a street food court for everyone, is located along Ratchadamri Road next to Lumpini Park, Gate 5 (BTS Sala Daeng Exit 6 and MRT Lumpini Exit 1). It features popular street food stalls well-known to locals, including the famous pork blood soup at Lumpini Gate 8, soy milk, pork knuckle rice, chicken noodle soup, fried bananas, and many more, rotating vendors during morning (05:00-16:00) and evening (16:00-24:00) shifts. The food court is designed to blend the identity of Bangkok street food with international standards, considering the surrounding environmental context, such as relocating large trees temporarily during construction and returning them afterward, utilizing natural ventilation systems to reduce reliance on air conditioning, and using roofing materials that minimize glare affecting nearby hospitals. Additionally, the vendor spaces are organized systematically at 2x2 meters per stall, accommodating over 100 vendors, with designed dining zones, walkways, and efficient circulation systems, while emphasizing comprehensive hygiene support systems, including dishwashing and cleaning areas, standardized waste disposal points, grease traps, and handwashing stations for visitors, enhancing cleanliness, safety, and the city's image, making the Hawker Center both a food court and a public space that reflects modernity, environmental consciousness, and sustainably improves the quality of life for people.

The Hawker Center Lumpini project will have its soft opening on Friday, April 10, 2026, with the honor of being attended by Governor Chatchart Sitthiphan and his team, along with Weerapong Ko, Managing Director of On-Demand Services at LINE MAN Wongnai, and their team, visiting the project site. This marks another significant step in the collaboration between the public and private sectors to elevate Thai street food to urban standards tangibly.
