Kasikorn Research Center Warns Thai Entrepreneurs to Prepare for EU CBAM Early Next Year: The Choice is Either 'Wait or Act' - Those Who Start 'Going Green' First Will Have an Advantage
As the European Union (EU) is set to implement carbon border adjustment mechanisms (CBAM) early next year, products exported from Thailand to the EU will bear the burden of carbon costs. There is also a tendency for the EU to intensify and expand the scope of CBAM to include more product categories by 2034, prompting Thai entrepreneurs to accelerate their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to maintain competitiveness.

Additionally, delays in increasing the use of clean energy and the enforcement of the Climate Change Act have caused Thailand to miss opportunities to use carbon fee revenues as a fund to support domestic entrepreneurs, instead of paying fees to foreign entities.

This situation leaves Thai entrepreneurs with two options: 'wait or act.' They can either wait for laws or external pressures to force compliance, or they can proactively engage in making their businesses 'greener' to create advantages, reduce risks, and prepare for carbon taxes.
