National Housing Authority Implements Urgent Measures to Assist Residents in Thai-Cambodian Border Areas with Rent Exemptions and Debt Relief
The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, through the National Housing Authority, emphasizes its proactive role in caring for the public, especially vulnerable groups in the Thai-Cambodian border areas, who are currently directly affected by the unrest along the border that impacts the safety and quality of life of the people.
On August 4, 2025, Mr. Thavipong Vichaidit, Governor of the National Housing Authority, revealed that the authority stands ready to support the people in times of crisis with concrete assistance measures to alleviate the burden of housing costs and promote the security of living for those affected. The urgent measures for residents of the National Housing Authority in seven border provinces—Sisaket, Surin, Buriram, Ubon Ratchathani, Trat, Chanthaburi, and Sa Kaeo—include three main areas of support: 1. Exemption from minor rent and utility charges for National Housing Authority customers, with free rent for three months from August 1 to October 31, 2025, including a 100% waiver of penalties for those settling overdue payments during this period. 2. Suspension of payments for hire-purchase customers; those who have purchased buildings from the National Housing Authority in affected areas will receive a three-month suspension of hire-purchase payments from August 1 to October 31, 2025, along with a 100% waiver of penalties for overdue payments. 3. Support for basic necessities; the National Housing Authority has prepared relief packages to assist three main groups: 1) residents living in National Housing Authority projects in border areas, 2) vulnerable groups within the projects, and 3) those who have migrated to stay with relatives in the projects due to the unrest.
Mr. Thavipong stated, “These measures reflect the mission of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security through the National Housing Authority to stand by the people in all situations, especially during times of crisis, to ensure everyone has stability in housing and receives comprehensive care, both for those directly affected and for volunteers helping others in the same community.” The National Housing Authority is committed to advancing policies to assist the public to the fullest extent, focusing on housing, basic living needs, and long-term community recovery.
