Frasers Property Thailand Announces Success as the First Real Estate Company in Thailand to Achieve Short-Term Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target Certification from SBTi, Moving Towards Net Zero Carbon Goal
Frasers Property Thailand proudly announces its certification from SBTi as the first company in the Thai real estate industry to achieve short-term greenhouse gas reduction target certification across all 3 Scopes. This underscores the company's serious commitment to sustainability, aiming to become a greenhouse gas-free organization by 2593 and to contribute to long-term solutions for climate change.
Mr. Thanapol Sirithanachai, Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Property (Thailand) Public Company Limited, or “FPT,” revealed that FPT is the first real estate company in Thailand to be verified and certified for its short-term greenhouse gas reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company aims to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions (Scope 2) from energy use, as well as indirect emissions occurring in the value chain (Scope 3) by 42% by 2573, compared to the baseline year of 2564, to keep global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees.
“One of the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) goals of the Frasers Property Group is to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1-3 by 2593, making it a greenhouse gas-free organization (Net Zero Carbon). Receiving certification from SBTi is another milestone that reflects Frasers Property Thailand's ongoing sustainability efforts to achieve this goal and is part of our responsibility to manage the impacts of climate change. We hope this success will inspire and serve as a model for other organizations,” Mr. Thanapol stated.
To achieve its greenhouse gas reduction targets, Frasers Property Thailand has enhanced its sustainability operations across various dimensions, including:
- Increasing the share of renewable energy by installing solar panels across all business sectors, including residential, industrial, and commercial, with a target of installing a total of 41MW by 2573.
- All new rental property projects, such as factories, warehouses, and office buildings, must be designed and developed according to green building standards such as LEED, TREES, EDGE, and upgrading existing buildings to meet green building standards as well, aiming for 85% of assets under the company's management to be certified or in the process of certification for green building standards by 2573.
- Adopting technologies and innovations that promote energy efficiency, such as an Energy Management System (EMS) to monitor and control energy use appropriately, and Motion Sensors to reduce electricity consumption, along with using LED lighting and water-saving devices as standard in all projects.
- Increasing the use of environmentally friendly construction materials in the construction process, such as concrete with recycled materials, steel with recycled content, and low volatile organic compound (Low VOCs) paints.
- Promoting waste segregation at both the headquarters and various project sites to reduce landfill waste, alongside activities to raise awareness about social and environmental care among employees.
The SBTi was established through a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and the Worldwide Fund for Nature, with the goal of supporting businesses worldwide in addressing climate change through setting science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets.
