In Touch with Nature: Sustainable Design Perspectives from KASCHKASCH and Sher Maker
Crystal Home, a luxury bathroom decor and comprehensive service provider, hosted a discussion titled “In Touch with Nature: Crafting Sustainable Design”, inviting everyone to engage in conversations and share design experiences that connect with nature. The event featured insights from two designers from the KASCHKASCH studio, known for the ‘Antao Collection’ of luxurious bathroom products from the brand Villeroy & Boch, alongside Thai architect Sher Maker, who designed the Aesop Thonglor Signature Store.
Ms. Sutthipa Sawad-Chuto, Executive Director of Crystal Home, discussed current trends focusing on environmental consciousness and the increasing integration of nature into daily life, including residential design and decor. This has evolved into a trend of sustainable design, which not only enhances the beauty of homes in harmony with nature but also creates a positive living atmosphere. This aligns with Crystal Home's philosophy of ‘Look good, feel good’, emphasizing that in sanitary ware design, quality and functionality must meet customer needs while also considering aesthetics and the integration of nature into the home, creating emotional value and joy every time one sees and uses it.
During this designer talk, Crystal Home collaborated with art4d and leading partner brand 'Villeroy & Boch' to invite everyone to explore the aesthetics of design that merges sustainability, focusing on coexistence with nature while providing beauty and functionality for homes. This reinforces the experience that “Every home decoration is easy and worthwhile”, which not only offers value to residents but also reflects the selection of the best for our planet, our larger home.
At the event, Florian Kallus and Sebastian Schneider, two renowned designers from KASCHKASCH, shared intriguing perspectives on how sustainable design is evolving. People are increasingly interested in products that blend beauty with a touch of nature in their living spaces, creating a connection between life at home and the natural world outside. Nowadays, many home and bathroom designs incorporate this concept, using natural materials, warm color tones, and landscapes inspired by nature, as it has been proven that such designs can significantly enhance positive energy. Thus, luxury bathroom decor is not just about creating functional spaces but also about providing relaxation, rejuvenation, and promoting health and well-being through nature's healing in the bathroom.
Architect Pachrada Inplaeng from Sher Maker expressed that design is not merely about creating works but is a journey of studying and experiencing nature firsthand to deeply understand materials and the lifestyles of local people. She conveys this closeness to nature in her unique designs, emphasizing the preservation of the original character of old pieces while integrating them with new design approaches to utilize resources most effectively. This also promotes community labor, creating designs that are both beautiful and environmentally sustainable.
These ideas reflect the work of the two designers from KASCHKASCH, who have incorporated 275 years of ceramic history from Villeroy & Boch with their design character to create ceramic pieces that feel beautiful in every aspect, regardless of their placement or pairing. They presented their creative work at this event through the ‘Antao Collection’, luxurious bathroom products from Villeroy & Boch inspired by the shape of water droplets, evoking a sense of tranquility and simplicity while maintaining uniqueness, designed with environmental considerations in mind, using materials and functions that ensure comfort and provide a luxurious experience.
Antao Collection includes sanitary ware, washbasins, bathtubs, faucets, and furniture, with various sizes and free-form designs suitable for all bathroom sizes. It captivates with calm and warm color tones such as glossy white (White Alpine), matte white (Stone White), almond, green (Morning Green), and black (Pure Black), reminiscent of nature.
A standout piece, the Antao Bathtub, features a gently curved shape resembling a droplet, made from a special material called Quaryl, a blend of quartz and acrylic that resists scratches like natural stone, is durable against UV rays, and maintains its beauty over time while also conserving resources by keeping water temperature stable, allowing users to relax and help the environment simultaneously.
Additionally, the Antao Collection introduces other innovations such as a CeramicPlus coating that prevents dirt and limescale, making cleaning easier. For instance, the Antao Washdown Toilet features a seamless, rounded design integrated with TwistFlush technology for thorough flushing with water-saving efficiency. The Antao Washbasin, a droplet-shaped sink made from the special material TitanCeram, enhances durability against scratches while preserving the intricacy of the design.
These works reflect the harmony of concept, design, and environmental value, earning international recognition with the Red Dot Design Award 2023 for outstanding product design, particularly in uniqueness, distinction, and practicality, as well as the iF Design Award 2023, reflecting works that are not only beautiful but also innovative and excellently meet user needs. Katharina Klotz, Head of Marketing APAC at Villeroy & Boch, added that these works play a crucial role in creating living spaces that are more than just “houses,” as decorating with these products expresses the identity of the residents, aligning with Villeroy & Boch's concept of ‘A House Becomes A Home’.
“Sustainability is a crucial focus for everyone. In the future, the trend for luxury bathroom design will emphasize harmony with nature alongside environmental preservation. Crystal Home believes that the Villeroy & Boch brand continuously adapts to trends and can present designs that meet these needs. Therefore, we are confident in selecting the Antao Collection for Crystal Home to offer luxury that meets both functional and environmental sustainability needs, perfectly delivering to our customers and our larger home, the Earth,” Ms. Sutthipa Sawad-Chuto concluded.
