Icon Siam and Sook Siam, in collaboration with Kasikorn Bank, Thai Paper Products Co., Ltd., Fest by SCGP, and Wake Up Waste, organized the event 'SOOKSIAM: Earth-Friendly Year 3' to reinforce the concept of 'Small Happiness, Big Impact, Caring for the Environment.' The initiative transforms 'clear plastic bottles' into fabric to 'warm the little ones' at Sook Siam, Level G, Icon Siam.

Icon Siam is committed to a business vision that benefits a large number of people and aims to play a significant role in enhancing the quality of life for Thais. Therefore, it has integrated the strategies of 'Co-creation' and 'Creating Shared Values' into all business processes, emphasizing social, environmental, and cultural responsibility. Icon Siam is dedicated to sustainable community development along the Chao Phraya River and has continuously undertaken missions for the conservation of natural resources and the environment surrounding the river. Last year, Icon Siam and Sook Siam, along with partners, managed food waste generated within their premises, converting it into organic fertilizer or soil nutrients through food waste processing machines, delivering over 20 tons to the Environmental Office for sustainable green area restoration in Bangkok and schools in the Khlong San district within a year. Additionally, Sook Siam, with the cooperation of responsible business operators, has switched to eco-friendly packaging made from natural fibers (eucalyptus pulp), which is safe from harmful chemicals and biodegradable within 60 days, along with the use of 100% energy-saving light bulbs throughout Sook Siam.

The event 'SOOKSIAM: Earth-Friendly Year 3' was inaugurated with the honor of Khun Pornprom Wikitseth, Advisor to the Governor of Bangkok and Executive for Sustainability of Bangkok, along with Khun Phairach Wisesiri, Khun Nalinrat Thantranont, Khun Kitchai Tatsanvinyo, Khun Wichakarn Plodkathok, Khun Nopnat Boonsing, and Khun Boonwalee Jindachamrungkul.

Mr. Banchaa Chantadilok, Managing Director of Sook Siam, stated that with a strong commitment to environmental preservation and adherence to the principles of the Circular Economy, Sook Siam has launched the 'SOOKSIAM: Earth-Friendly Year 3' campaign to promote resource efficiency and the repurposing of used items into products that maximize benefits. This includes establishing a Waste Sorting Station to serve tourists and visitors at Sook Siam, categorizing waste into the following types: 1. Liquids, 2. Plastic bottles, 3. Food waste, 4. General waste, and 5. Food containers. To reduce plastic bottle waste, Sook Siam has partnered with Wake Up Waste to recycle plastic bottles into various eco-friendly products continuously. The project 'Warmth for the Little Ones' aims to produce eco-friendly blankets from plastic bottles to be donated to 2,000 children in rural areas, including Ban Khek Noi, Phetchabun, Ban Huai Rong School, Phrae, Ban Pon School, Nan, and the Social Development and Human Security Office in Mae Hong Son. Training on waste sorting has also been provided to business operators by the Environmental Office and Wake Up Waste. Visitors can sort and dispose of waste, including plastic bottles, at the Waste Sorting Station throughout the year for recycling.

Additionally, the event featured special activities from the food packaging booth Fest by SCGP, promoting environmentally friendly food packaging innovations, 'Fest Bio Brown,' aimed at reducing single-use plastic waste. This initiative encourages participating vendors to choose eco-friendly packaging that is naturally biodegradable within 60 days, made from 100% eucalyptus pulp sourced from commercial plantations, benefiting the environment and increasing farmers' incomes while encouraging the public and tourists to engage in environmental preservation through the use of biodegradable food packaging.

At the event, tourists enjoyed an eco-friendly atmosphere while shopping at the ECO-Market featuring natural products, such as naturally dyed fabrics from Chiang Mai, natural rattan containers from Bang Sai community in Ayutthaya, herbal extracts, particularly Thai shallots, including herbal inhalers, clothing made from recycled fabrics, handmade watches and glasses from natural wood like teak, bamboo, and redwood, woven bags, hats, and handwoven cotton clothing from Ban Don Luang community in Lamphun, made from sedge, and silk scarves from natural silk fibers in San Kamphaeng, Chiang Mai, as well as indigo-dyed clothing from Chiang Mai, handmade accessories like keychains and dolls made from leftover dyed fabrics. The area was creatively decorated with ideas from plastic bottles, caps, and bags, and visitors could participate in creative eco-friendly workshops while enjoying spectacular Thai cultural performances. The activities will take place from today until September 18, 2024.
