SCG Roofs, Ceilings, Insulation, and Construction Materials: Expanding the Market for Green Products and Innovations for Sustainable Living
SCG, a leader in roofing, ceilings, insulation, and construction materials under the SCG, Smartboard SCG, and DECAAR by SCG brands, is advancing development to meet all consumer needs for a convenient, cost-effective, safe, and eco-friendly life. They are also accelerating efforts to build a low-carbon society by developing innovations for health and enhancing quality of life.

Ms. Anchalee Chuanalikhit, Head of Housing Product Solution Business at SCG Smart Living, stated, "SCG is part of the effort to accelerate Thailand's transition to a low-carbon society by adjusting strategies and developing production processes, including management to reduce carbon in housing products. 'Choose what is good for the world, choose what is good for us' with the 'Greenomy Innovation' approach."

In the past, SCG has prioritized the development and enhancement of consumer health and quality of life by rapidly developing products and services that help reduce health impacts on users, residents, and installers before regulations come into effect. For example, they have replaced asbestos with alternative materials in all products, including roofing, smart boards, and fiber cement composites, while maintaining quality and affordability. SCG has ceased the use of asbestos in all products since 2007.
Moreover, SCG is expanding its market for environmentally friendly housing products under the SCG Green Choice symbol, which aims to develop products and services. Currently, SCG's Green Choice products account for 70% of their offerings, fostering customer participation to create change and improve the quality of life for residents and installers, as well as caring for the environment.

Mr. Anusorn Pojanapatt, Chief Operating Officer of SCG Smart Living, remarked, "SCG has developed and started using a special coating that reduces the resin-based material components. This not only helps reduce VOCs, which are hazardous substances, but also minimizes microplastic waste in the environment that could impact the food chain and consumers. Currently, special paint is being used to reduce microplastic emissions in all types of SCG double-roof products, with plans to expand this to synthetic wood products by 2024."
As part of the goal to move towards a low-carbon society, SCG aims to reduce carbon emissions from the production of roofs, ceilings, insulation, and construction materials by installing solar roofs and solar farms in over 22 factories. They have also invested in clean energy technology to replace fossil fuels, with an investment budget of over 1,200 million baht over the next five years. Additionally, they are transitioning to low-carbon structural cement or hybrid cement as the main raw material for product manufacturing, starting from January 2024.

Currently, SCG concrete roofs can reduce carbon emissions by up to 140 Kg.CO2, or 14%, equivalent to planting 15 trees for each house built with a 120 square meter SCG concrete roof. In the next 5 years, SCG aims to further develop products and services throughout the process to increase carbon reduction to 254 Kg.CO2, or 26%, equivalent to planting 27 trees compared to early concrete roof production technology. Furthermore, they are developing support for customers and projects that reduce carbon emissions from the installation process to construction site management, such as developing SCG prefabricated roof structures that minimize excess material waste and expanding comprehensive roofing services that include estimation and installation without leftover materials.

Moreover, SCG is not only focused on reducing carbon emissions from materials but is also looking into materials that can absorb carbon from the atmosphere (Carbon Negative Product). This includes the development of innovations and marketing strategies for SCG roofing, ceilings, insulation, and construction materials under the concept of 'Greenomy Innovation', which combines Green with Economy. This approach not only aims to create benefits for the environment and the quality of life of the related supply chain but also promotes green innovations to be more accessible and beneficial beyond just the premium market.
Ms. Anchalee Chuanalikhit concluded, "Discover innovations in housing products and services at the SCG booth, showcased under the theme 'SCG Forward into Future Living: Sustaining Space and Technology' at Architect '67, or inquire about products at SCG HOME Experience stores and SCG Contact Center at 02-586-2222."
