Mr. Vicharn Jitprakhdee, CEO of SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP), announced that SCGP has signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Origin Materials, a leading technology company from the United States listed on NASDAQ, to jointly develop “Bio-based Plastic from Chopped Eucalyptus Wood” , which is a world-class innovation that processes eucalyptus wood using advanced technology to convert it into raw materials for SCGP's packaging production, enhancing SCGP's capabilities throughout the supply chain (Value-accretive vertical integration) and extending to the production of various packaging and products such as beverage packaging, food packaging, textiles, and apparel to meet sustainability goals for the environment. This collaboration represents a strategic business partnership that combines the expertise of both companies. SCGP has extensive experience and expertise in eucalyptus research and development, continuously innovating from eucalyptus to maximize the use of natural resources, while Origin Materials is a global leader in developing technologies that help reduce carbon dioxide emissions. They have conducted experiments using chopped eucalyptus wood through a chemical process with a catalyst, utilizing proprietary technology to produce Bio-PTA and HTC (“Hydrothermal Carbon”). Bio-PTA can be used to produce Bio-PET, which has properties equivalent to petroleum-based PET, is recyclable, and can be recycled alongside conventional PET, while HTC can be converted into biofuel energy for the automotive industry. “SCGP and Origin Materials have jointly experimented with producing precursors from eucalyptus wood to create Bio-PET and found that the quality of the precursor from eucalyptus wood is high. We plan to develop this innovation together for commercial viability to meet market demand for sustainable products that can be effectively recycled, contributing to the protection and sustainability of the planet,” Mr. Vicharn stated. Mr. John Bissell, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Origin Materials stated that Origin Materials is a world-leading company committed to developing innovations and technologies to transition the world to sustainable raw materials, helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions for over a decade. “Origin Materials is very pleased with this collaboration with SCGP, which enhances and adds value to renewable plant-based raw materials in a region abundant with resources. We are strategically working together to expand the scope of technology in developing innovations to transition the world to sustainable raw materials in line with our organizational goals,” Mr. John concluded.
