SHARGE collaborates with Chao Phraya Express Boat to revolutionize water transportation from combustion boats to "electric boats," aiming to enhance travel around the Chao Phraya River with clean energy, save energy, and reduce air pollution. This initiative aligns with the goals of Zero Emission Vehicles and a Low-carbon Society, with plans to establish electric boat charging stations featuring at least 40 high-speed chargers within five years, starting with the first station at Maharaj Pier, a community mall, and launching the first electric boat route from Nonthaburi Pier to Sathorn Pier.

Mr. Pirapat Sirichantaropas, Managing Director of Charge Management Co., Ltd. (SHARGE), a leader in creating an EV Charging Ecosystem to support sustainable lifestyles, revealed that the company's vision, Scale Up EV Future, is committed to developing critical infrastructure for electric vehicles (EV) by expanding EV charging stations nationwide and partnering with new allies to enhance the EV charging ecosystem in Thailand. Recently, the company signed a collaboration agreement with Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd. to jointly transform water transportation from combustion engine boats to electric boats, extending the company's services from solely creating electric vehicle charging stations to developing electric boat charging stations.

“In the past, when people mentioned EV, they often thought only of personal electric vehicles. However, in reality, Thailand still has many vehicles using internal combustion engines that can be converted to EVs. Today, we and Chao Phraya Express Boat share a common vision to transition from combustion boats to electric boats, driving travel around the Chao Phraya River with clean energy, saving energy, and reducing air pollution for a better quality of life for passengers, residents along the river, and society as a whole,” Mr. Pirapat stated.

SHARGE will assist in developing electric boat charging stations at various piers along the routes served by Chao Phraya Express Boat, ensuring sufficient infrastructure to meet the demand for electricity and the increasing number of electric boats in the future. The focus will be on developing direct current (DC) charging stations with high-speed 360 kW chargers to facilitate quick overnight charging for all boats, ensuring adequate power for daily operations. The first electric boat charging station is expected to be developed at Maharaj Pier, a key location with high passenger traffic, before expanding to other major destination piers to have at least 40 high-speed chargers within five years.

Moving forward, SHARGE will continue to build partnerships with new allies, particularly expanding collaborations with fleet operators, to rapidly and sustainably promote the EV ecosystem in Thailand.

Ms. Natapree Pichaironnarong, Executive Director of Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd., stated that the company is highly committed to transitioning its services from combustion-powered passenger boats to electric boats to enhance safety, comfort, reduce energy consumption and imports from abroad, and be environmentally friendly. This aligns with the goals of the National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee to achieve zero-emission vehicles and create a low-carbon society. The company has continuously partnered with various allies to ensure sustainability in its operations.

“The transition from combustion boats to electric boats involves various factors that the company prioritizes, including the safety of the energy used, the capabilities of the boats, the operational hours per charging session, and the readiness of charging stations. SHARGE is a key partner with a shared vision and the potential to ensure that electric boat charging stations are ready and sufficient to meet the future demand for electric passenger boats around the Chao Phraya River,” Ms. Natapree added.

The company aims to develop and design electric boats to be completed by 2022. If the prototype electric boat meets consumer demand, the company plans to produce 5-6 electric boats annually, reaching a total of 30 boats within 5-6 years, with two sizes: one for 200 passengers and another for 250 passengers. The first electric boat route, from Nonthaburi Pier to Sathorn Pier, is expected to begin service by mid-year.

Chao Phraya Express Boat Co., Ltd. is part of the Suphatra Group, providing passenger boat services in Thailand for over 50 years. Currently, Chao Phraya Express Boat operates 56 boats across four routes along the Chao Phraya River, including the Orange Flag route from Nonthaburi to Wat Ratchasingkhorn, the Yellow Flag route from Nonthaburi to Sathorn, the Green Flag route from Pak Kret to Sathorn, and the Red Flag air-conditioned express boat from Nonthaburi to Sathorn.
