Internet Detox: Taking a Break from the Online World
In today's world, access to the internet and various wireless communication devices has become an integral part of modern human life. We have constant access to information and communication, whether through various Wi-Fi networks or mobile networks, surrounding us with communication signals from these devices at all times. This has resulted in what is termed electromagnetic pollution, enveloping us both day and night, even while we sleep. This issue has been recognized as one of the 10 global wellness trends at the Global Wellness Summit 2020. The World Health Organization also notes that in the 5G era, exposure to electromagnetic pollution is expected to increase as the number of communication devices rises and the frequency of signal waves increases.

To detox from the digital world and reduce exposure to electromagnetic pollution, many hotels and resorts in various countries have implemented programs that encourage guests to take a break from internet access temporarily. For instance, at the Grand Velas hotel in Los Cabos, Mexico, guests can temporarily check in their communication devices in exchange for free activities such as snorkeling, cycling, yoga, or kayaking.

Other resorts have taken it a step further. For example, Villa Stephanie in Baden Baden, Germany, has installed copper wiring insulated against electromagnetic waves within the guest rooms to protect visitors from various signal waves, reducing electromagnetic pollution inside the rooms. There is also a switch that guests can use to turn off the Wi-Fi when the lights in the bedroom are turned off, allowing residents to rest fully.

Although the place we live or our residences may not have devices that protect us from electrical waves, and there is still scientific debate regarding the effects of electromagnetic pollution on cells or human bodily functions, taking time for ourselves to rest our bodies, relax our eyes, and distance ourselves from computers or electronic devices is something we can do to enhance our mental and physical health, allowing us to rest more effectively.
