Coping with Stress for a Happier Life!
When stress hits, some people can handle it and move on without any issues, while others struggle to manage it, leading to negative effects on both their mental and physical well-being.
If you find yourself in this situation, don't let yourself get trapped. By learning to cope with and manage stress, life can become much happier. Today, Tonkit360 brings you valuable advice from renowned Indian speaker and author, Srikumar Rao, the author of the bestselling book “Happiness at Work: Be Resilient, Motivated and Successful – No Matter What,” on how to eliminate stress for a happier life.
1. Always remember that not everything is within your control.
No matter how well we plan or how skilled we are, unexpected events can always occur. Therefore, it’s important to remember that not everything is under our control. Accepting this can help calm your mind.
2. Take a break when you feel tension in your stomach and your heart racing.
When you experience tension in your stomach and a racing heart, you should immediately stop your activities. Then, take deep, slow breaths, focusing on your breathing. As you inhale, feel the air filling your lungs and your stomach expanding. As you exhale, notice the movement of your lungs and stomach contracting. Do this slowly for 5-10 times before returning to your work.
3. Focus on one task at a time; avoid multitasking.
Multitasking drains your energy. Not only does it make you feel exhausted, but it also reduces your efficiency. Therefore, if you feel overwhelmed by everything coming at you, choose one task to focus on and concentrate on that. Also, mute email notifications and social media alerts.
4. Take a 3-4 minute break to give your brain a rest.
After working intensely for about 20 minutes, give yourself a 3-4 minute break. Stand up, stretch, and change your posture to relax your body before returning to work. If you need to work continuously at your desk for up to 50 minutes, take a longer break of about 10 minutes before diving back into your tasks.
5. No one can predict whether the future will be good or bad.
Since we cannot predict how our current actions will affect the future, what we once thought would be bad may not turn out to be so. In fact, it might even be better than we expected. Therefore, avoid dwelling on negative thoughts about the future as long as you remain present and focus on doing your best in the moment.
