The Department of Business Development, Ministry of Commerce, has revealed the business registration statistics for July 2020.

Ms. Sorada Lertapachit, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Business Development, announced the business registration details for July 2020 as follows:

  • Number of New Businesses Established

In July 2020, there were 5,667 new business registrations across the country, with a registered capital of 16.714 billion baht.

  • The top three categories of newly established businesses were: general construction businesses with 576 registrations (10%), followed by real estate businesses with 246 registrations (4%), and transportation and freight businesses, including passenger transport, with 172 registrations (3%).

- New businesses were categorized by capital, with the highest number of new registrations being in the capital range of up to 1 million baht, totaling 4,191 registrations (73.96%). The next highest was the capital range of 1-5 million baht with 1,402 registrations (24.74%), followed by the range of 5-100 million baht with 58 registrations (1.02%), and finally, the range of over 100 million baht with 16 registrations (0.28%).

  • Businesses Ceasing Operations

- The number of businesses that ceased operations was 1,261, with a registered capital of 7.668 billion baht, reflecting a trend of business closures over the past five years.

- The top three categories of businesses that ceased operations were: general construction businesses with 90 closures (7%), followed by real estate businesses with 78 closures (6%), and food service businesses in restaurants with 38 closures (3%).

- Businesses ceasing operations were also categorized by capital, with the highest number of closures in the capital range of up to 1 million baht, totaling 847 closures (67.17%). The next highest was the capital range of 1-5 million baht with 340 closures (26.96%), followed by the range of 5-100 million baht with 67 closures (5.31%), and finally, the range of over 100 million baht with 7 closures (0.56%).

As for businesses still operating as of July 2020:

  • As of July 31, 2020, there were a total of 768,874 businesses still operating nationwide, with a total registered capital of 18.53 trillion baht. This included 187,265 limited partnerships/general partnerships (24.35%), 580,332 limited companies (75.48%), and 1,277 public limited companies (0.17%).
