Did you know that among the 66 million people in Thailand, there are a certain number of "entrepreneurs" or "business owners" who pay taxes to the government for national development?

According to the Revenue Department's tax database as of October 24, 2017 (for the tax year 2015), it was found that Thailand had a total of 2,096,297 entrepreneurs filing tax returns. This number is divided into two main groups:

Group 1: Businesses operating as “companies or corporate partnerships” (filing Form P.N.D. 50) consists of 510,371 entities, accounting for 24.35% of the total number of entrepreneurs, which is 2,096,297. This group includes:

1.1 Companies or corporate partnerships with annual income not exceeding 1,800,000 (referred to as XS) total 261,165, representing 12.46% of all entrepreneurs.

1.2 Companies or corporate partnerships with annual income exceeding 1,800,000 (S) total 177,818, representing 8.48% of all entrepreneurs.

1.3 Companies or corporate partnerships with annual income between 30-500 million (M) total 62,822, representing 3% of all entrepreneurs.

1.4 Companies or corporate partnerships with annual income between 500-2,000 million (L) total 6,194, representing 0.3% of all entrepreneurs.

1.5 Companies or corporate partnerships with annual income exceeding 2,000 million (XL) total 2,372, representing 0.11% of all entrepreneurs.

Group 2: Businesses operating as “individuals” is the largest group affected by the measure to reduce the standard deduction to 60% (filing Form P.N.D. 90), totaling 1,585,926, which accounts for 75.65% of all entrepreneurs. This group includes:

2.1 Small business owners with annual income not exceeding 1,800,000 (XS) total 1,479,066, representing 70.56% of all entrepreneurs.

2.2 SMEs with annual income exceeding 1,800,000 (S) total 106,860, representing 5.1% of all entrepreneurs.

If we take the total number of entrepreneurs, 2,096,297, and subtract the number of companies or corporate partnerships with annual income between 500-2,000 million (6,194) and those with income exceeding 2,000 million (2,372), we are left with approximately 2,087,731 SMEs with annual income below 500 million.

This is an overview of the business landscape in Thailand that is within the tax system, totaling just 2.09 million.
