Good news for citizens! The Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has announced an increase in the standard rates for medical treatment costs to maximize benefits for victims of road accidents, effective immediately.

Mr. Sutthipol Thaveechaiyagarn, Secretary-General of the Office of Insurance Commission, revealed that Mr. Somchai Sajjapong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Committee for the Protection of Road Accident Victims, has signed the announcement regarding the standardization of items and amounts for medical treatment costs and necessary expenses that insurance companies or the compensation fund must pay to road accident victims (Version 2) for the year 2017, which has been in effect since June 29, 2017.

The adjustment of the standard rates aligns with current circumstances and follows market mechanisms that have seen rising costs. Therefore, the items in the announcement have been compared with the original version from the Committee for the Protection of Road Accident Victims, along with the standard service prices from the Ministry of Public Health and the Comptroller General's Department. This has led to an increase in the prices for 29 medical treatment items, with no reductions in prices whatsoever.

For example, the cost for special brain diagnostic tests has increased from 4,000 baht to 5,000 baht, a 25% increase. The nursing service fee for general inpatients has risen from 360 baht to 500 baht, a 39% increase, and even the emergency ambulance fee has been adjusted to allow for reimbursement of 1,100 baht for the first 10 kilometers.
