From Food Waste to Food Wow! SUPALAI Supports Rescue Gelato from PEAR is hungry: When Good Ideas Are Given Space to Grow
A large amount of surplus food is discarded every day, not because it is inedible, but because it is no longer chosen. Believing that leftovers still hold value, PEAR is hungry has developed the Rescue & Eat project, which repurposes surplus ingredients to create new value through food, encouraging people to view "leftovers" from a different perspective. With support from Supalai Public Company Limited, Rescue Gelato now has the opportunity to reach more people and spark broader conversations about food waste and the mindful use of resources.

One of the projects under Rescue & Eat is Rescue Gelato, developed from Surplus Bakery, which consists of high-quality baked goods that have not been utilized. At the CTC2026 event, 650 cups of Rescue Gelato were part of the SUPALAI booth activities, promoting the idea of mindful resource use and inviting attendees to explore new perspectives on food, waste, and living with less impact on the world through tasting gelato made from previously overlooked ingredients.
Visitors to the event sampled all three flavors of Rescue Gelato, developed from surplus bakery items, including:
• Toasted Malt from various types of crispy bread
• Croissant Crisp from buttery croissants
• Berry Danish from berry danishes
SUPALAI's support has also enabled the repurposing of over 10 kilograms of surplus bread before it became food waste.
This bread was transformed into gelato to extend its shelf life and create new value, resulting in an estimated reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of about 25.30 kgCO₂e, equivalent to the carbon absorption of approximately 2 mature trees over the course of 1 year. This event not only refreshed attendees at CTC2026 but also served as another example of creating new value from what might be overlooked. Over 10 kilograms of surplus bread had the chance to become food again, sparking small conversations about food, waste, and the mindful use of resources.

Because sometimes change may not start with something big, but rather from looking at "leftovers" differently. Small Scoop of Future Thinking for Better Living.
