ION Energy, a leading solar energy solutions provider, has teamed up with Sigenergy, a global smart energy solutions developer, to become partners in Thailand. They aim to expand the installation of solar energy systems for households across the country, driven by the government project "Solar for the People," which encourages Thai citizens to accelerate solar installations. The goal is to add another 5,000 installations within three years, with expectations for the Thai solar market to grow to a top regional level. The collaboration between the two companies is set to enhance the delivery of smart energy technology to consumers.

Mr. Pirakarn Manakij, CEO of ION Energy Corporation, stated that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sigenergy, the global smart energy solutions developer, to become Sigenergy's partner in Thailand. Together, they will expand clean energy system installations to cover 5,000 households nationwide within three years (2026–2029) while focusing on developing a robust and sustainable sales and service network in the Thai residential market.

“In the past, most people installed solar systems primarily to reduce daytime electricity costs. The initial phase of solar installations was mainly on-grid systems without energy storage, and there was no need for advanced energy management technologies. However, consumers are now increasingly concerned about energy security due to the war situation. Many are shifting to hybrid solar systems to store energy for later use and require advanced inverter and energy storage technologies. This presents a significant opportunity for us, as we have gained the trust of Sigenergy, a manufacturer of advanced global solar inverters and energy storage systems, to be their first partner in Thailand, responding to the changing consumer behavior,” said Mr. Pirakarn.

Historically, over 95% of ION Energy's customers opted for on-grid solar systems focused on reducing daytime electricity costs, with only 5% choosing hybrid systems. Currently, the proportion of hybrid installations has steadily increased to 40% of all new installations, reflecting a shift in consumer demand for systems that can store energy for use when needed, enhancing household energy security. Recently, the government launched the “Solar for the People” project, allowing households to turn their roofs into power sources and sell back electricity at 2.20 baht/unit for ten years. This initiative is expected to significantly encourage more citizens to install solar systems.

Mr. Tony Xu, CEO and Founder of Sigenergy, stated that Thailand is one of the most promising markets for clean energy growth in Southeast Asia, particularly with the increasing demand for household solar installations, aligning with Sigenergy's vision to support global energy transition.

“To expand in any country, we need strong local partners who understand the market and consumers, and can effectively install or deliver products. We have had the opportunity to work with ION Energy for some time and have seen this capability, which is why we are collaborating to deliver our smart technology to Thai households broadly and help lead Thailand's transition to clean energy,” said Mr. Tony Xu.

Sigenergy has been continuously investing in research and development, currently employing over 1,500 people worldwide, with nearly 50% in R&D, driving innovations in clean energy, including solar inverters and energy storage systems to better meet consumer needs in each country. We are confident that together with ION Energy, we can deliver excellent technology to support the transition to clean energy in Thailand.
