Asset World Corporation Public Company Limited (AWC), a Thai real estate developer focused on comprehensive lifestyle solutions, and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), a global leader in the hotel business, announced the launch of the "Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown" project, a new luxury lifestyle hotel that will become a cultural and lifestyle hub in Chinatown. Situated within the Weng Nakorn Kasem Yaowarat project, the largest mixed-use landmark development by AWC in the heart of Yaowarat, one of Bangkok's significant historical districts, the hotel reflects the charm of Thai-Chinese heritage through beautiful design, blending the vibrant and playful identity of the Kimpton brand to create a unique destination in a strategic location by the Ong Ang Canal, part of Bangkok's water tourism promotion initiative. This hotel is also a key highlight of the AWC River Journey Project, which will connect water tourism routes from the Ong Ang Canal to the Chao Phraya River and other riverside projects by AWC, reflecting AWC's commitment to creating long-term value under its Growth-Led Strategy while supporting Thailand as a global sustainable tourism destination.
Navallapa Traisorat, CEO and Managing Director of Asset World Corporation Public Company Limited, stated, "The collaboration between AWC and IHG continues to grow, following the development of the InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown alongside the Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown in the Weng Nakorn Kasem Yaowarat project. This marks a significant step reflecting our commitment to creating shared value. This hotel will enhance the tourism experience in Bangkok by harmoniously integrating culture, creativity, and community through world-class service from the Kimpton brand that resonates with the vibrancy of Yaowarat. This project is also developed as AWC’s Lifestyle Destination to preserve the historical significance of the area and present a new dimension of experience-driven tourism, supporting Thailand's long-term tourism potential."
Mr. Rajit Sukumaran, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for the East Asia and Pacific Region of IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed, "We are thrilled to expand our long-standing partnership with AWC by signing the development of the Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown. This new hotel will combine Kimpton's distinctive design, warm service, and deep understanding of guest needs with the cultural identity of Bangkok's historic district. We believe that our collaboration with AWC will provide meaningful and carefully curated experiences for modern travelers, deeply reflecting the charm of Yaowarat. Together with the InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown, which is part of IHG's portfolio, this new hotel will enhance the project's prominence and promote Yaowarat as a global cultural destination."
The Weng Nakorn Kasem Yaowarat project is a landmark mixed-use development by AWC that focuses on revitalizing the historic district while preserving its architectural and cultural charm. The Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown will be the second luxury lifestyle hotel in this historic area managed by IHG, a global leader in the hotel business, setting a new standard for tourism in Thailand's old town. Currently, the hotel is under construction, with basement areas being developed alongside the restoration of preserved buildings, and is expected to fully open by the end of 2029.
The Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown features a total of 154 rooms and suites, including exclusive suites located in the restored heritage building by the Ong Ang Canal, designed to blend comfort with unique character. It includes a Sky Lobby offering panoramic views of the new Chinese pavilion and the Yaowarat skyline, along with modern meeting rooms, a fully equipped fitness center, and a rooftop pool with a bar overlooking Charoen Krung Road and the Chao Phraya River.
Three unique restaurants will offer carefully curated dining and beverage experiences, respecting the cultural food roots of the area while presenting globally inspired menus that align with the open spirit of the Kimpton brand. Additionally, the hotel will be pet-friendly, with designated areas in both guest rooms and common spaces.
The hotel's design concept is inspired by three main themes of the project: "The Rebirth of Weng Nakorn Kasem," "Chinese-Siam Culture," and "A Cultural and Festival Hub," reflecting AWC's vision of respecting traditions while embracing new innovations that blend Thai-Chinese architectural heritage with contemporary and vibrant interior design, creating a cultural expression space that harmoniously integrates the past and present.
The Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown will be the fourth Kimpton hotel under AWC's continuously growing portfolio, located alongside the InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown, together creating a distinctive cluster of luxury hotels that will support AWC's goal of enhancing Thailand's tourism potential while attracting quality travelers to the valuable historic district in the heart of Bangkok.
"This project reflects AWC's commitment not only to delivering impressive experiences but also to connecting the values and meanings of art, history, and culture of each project, allowing travelers from around the world to appreciate the unique charm of Thailand and contribute to the holistic value of the community and society sustainably," Navallapa added. "The Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown will be an impressive destination, linking the past with the present and inspiring the future."
