Watch Out for 5 Innovative Construction Trends Transforming the World Towards Carbon Net Zero, Uniting Leading Green Technologies to Enhance Opportunities and Survival for Thai Real Estate and Construction at The NOVA Expo 2025
EEC Academy reveals 5 trends in modern construction innovation, indicating the direction for the construction industry to adapt towards global community goals through The Nova Expo 2025. This event will bring together leading organizations from the public and private sectors, along with the Thai ESCO Association, to promote carbon neutrality in Thai real estate through the "Climate Finance and Investment" model, along with a guide on business trends for Energy Service Companies, including new energy business models like "cooling energy". Supported by global policies, international funds, Thai government policies, the central bank, and leading Thai banks, this event will showcase cutting-edge technologies and green innovations of the future, resulting from collaboration across all sectors, enhancing opportunities and survival for the real estate and construction industries in Thailand and globally, towards a Carbon Net Zero society. The major event of the year, The Nova Expo 2025, themed "Green Innovations Changing the World," will take place from March 12-14, 2025 at BITEC Bangna, featuring new trends and knowledge from top industry experts.

Dr. Kesha Teerakomen, Chairman of the Executive Board of EEC Engineering Network Co., Ltd. or EEC Academy, stated that the Thai construction industry plays a crucial role in driving the country, contributing approximately 7-8% of GDP, with an economic value of the construction industry at 1.5-2 trillion baht per year, generating employment from trade to stimulating local economies. However, it is also an industry that releases more than 40% of global carbon emissions.
To move towards a carbon-neutral society and elevate communities towards sustainable futures, the global community emphasizes carbon reduction strategies. Similarly, producers and developers in the construction sector in Thailand and worldwide are increasingly focusing on green innovations to enhance energy efficiency and contribute to achieving Carbon Net Zero, promoting health and well-being.

To pursue this direction, construction developers must possess advanced technologies and knowledge to enhance building efficiency. EEC Academy, as a leader in engineering design systems both domestically and internationally, responds to global green trends by organizing The NOVA Expo 2025, the annual event for the real estate and construction industry, which has been held continuously for several years, gathering cutting-edge technologies for modern construction.
Dr. Kesha pointed out the main causes of carbon dioxide emissions from the construction industry, which stem from several key factors:
1. Construction materials from production processes that emit carbon dioxide up to 8%.
2. Energy use, especially in tropical countries like Thailand, where energy consumption for cooling systems in buildings accounts for 60-70% of total energy use.
3. Inefficient waste separation and disposal processes.
4. Transportation, where the distance and vehicles used still rely on fuel energy.
“Addressing these challenges requires clear measures, including designing efficient buildings using energy-saving technologies and low-energy building designs or Passive Design, selecting sustainable materials, and the government should establish standards supporting green building certifications. Most importantly, the use of alternative and clean energy should reduce dependence on grid electricity and promote the use of recycled materials to minimize waste and enable reuse, fostering a Circular Economy Model,” Dr. Kesha stated. Additionally, he revealed the five key innovative construction trends that are gaining global attention:

1. Green Design and Planning for Carbon Reduction, such as creating a good environment and utilizing nature, orienting buildings to prevent heat, maximizing resource use, considering from pre-construction to building operation for the next 30 years, using essential tools like the Carbon Footprint Calculator, Lifecycle Assessment, and sustainable building certification systems.
2. Green Modular and Materials Construction, a construction technique that involves prefabricated components from factories, helping to reduce construction time and costs while minimizing waste, with technologies like 3D printing and Construction Robotics playing significant roles.
3. Green Innovative Tech, utilizing IoT, AI, and Smart Systems in design, construction, construction management, and building operations. The integration of AI to predict energy usage patterns and adjust systems in real-time will enhance energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and extend building lifespan, featuring innovations like Digital Twins, modern solar-powered cooling systems, natural refrigerants, ductless air conditioning, geothermal cooling, and Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS).
4. Green Operation Quality, providing cooling energy services such as Cooling as a Service (CaaS), Performance Guarantee, and Smart Waste Water Management services to manage complex building systems effectively.
5. Green Innovation Energy, including RE100 or 100% clean energy, hydrogen energy, energy storage systems, ESCO or Energy Service Companies, and District Cooling Systems, which should receive support from the government, collaboration between public and private sectors, and education on the environmental benefits and advantages of these technologies.
These knowledge and technologies can be updated by stakeholders in the real estate and construction sectors at The Nova Expo 2025, the major event of the year that gathers cutting-edge technologies and green innovations of the future, showcasing the collective strength of all sectors of society and leading partners to enhance opportunities and survival for the real estate and construction industries in Thailand and globally towards a ZERO CARBON society, while introducing new environmentally friendly energy forms. Attendees will have the chance to hear discussions from industry experts.
