Insee B.Grimm Solar Accelerates Clean Energy Production in Phase One, Aiming to Reduce Carbon Dioxide Emissions by 54,000 Tons Annually
Insee B.Grimm Solar, a joint venture between the Siam City Cement Group and B.Grimm Power, is moving forward with the construction of its first solar panel phase to produce clean energy at the Siam City Cement plant in Kaeng Khoi, Saraburi, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 54,000 tons per year.
Mr. Ranjan Sazdeva, CEO of Siam City Cement Public Company Limited, stated that the Siam City Cement Group is committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and aims to source at least 50% of its electricity from alternative energy sources. The company is also dedicated to conducting its business sustainably in harmony with the community, society, and stakeholders, following environmental, social, and governance (ESG) guidelines under the concept of "Caring for the Future" and aligning with the Group's sustainability development goals for 2030 (INSEE Sustainability Ambition 2030).
Insee B.Grimm Solar Co., Ltd. was established through collaboration between Siam City Power Co., a subsidiary of Siam City Cement Group, holding 75% of the shares, and B.Grimm Power Future Solutions Co., a subsidiary of B.Grimm Power, holding 25%, to develop rooftop and ground-mounted solar energy projects within the Siam City Cement plant area in Saraburi, with an investment of approximately 1.9 billion baht.
The management teams of Siam City Cement and B.Grimm Power have already held a groundbreaking ceremony to commence construction, which is expected to be completed by April 2025, with electricity production for the Siam City Cement plant starting in September 2025.
“The Siam City Cement Group aims to utilize 50% renewable green energy in its cement business in Thailand by 2030. Previously, Siam City Cement has produced electricity from waste heat recovery in its cement production process and has installed a 4-megawatt solar rooftop, currently achieving 26% renewable energy usage. It is anticipated that once this clean energy project is operational, the company will increase its green energy usage to 36% by 2025, in line with its carbon dioxide emission reduction policies and environmental impact mitigation,” Mr. Ranjan added.
Dr. Harald Link, CEO of B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited, mentioned that the collaboration to establish Insee B.Grimm Solar will commence with the first phase of the project, which has a maximum capacity of 83.79 megawatts, enabling an annual electricity production of 117 GWh. This phase is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2025, helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 54,000 tons per year, with plans for a second phase to increase capacity by an additional 22 megawatts.
“B.Grimm Power collaborates with Siam City Cement Group to jointly develop rooftop and ground-mounted solar energy projects, marking a significant partnership between two leading business organizations to drive the business and the country forward with modern energy, while supporting environmentally friendly operations and community engagement, aligning with the Green Leap – Global and Green strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” Dr. Harald concluded.
Through the collaboration of these two renewable energy companies, the aim is to deliver clean energy for the cement production industry of Siam City Cement Group, reducing electricity production costs, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting the sustainability goals of both organizations.
