SCGP Promotes ESG Strategy to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions Across the Value Chain, Enhancing Sustainable Business Operations
SCGP enhances its business with an ESG strategy to drive sustainable growth and prepare for significant global changes (Megatrends). The company emphasizes the certification of the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) and the development of a Private Declaration Label to indicate the CFP on products. Additionally, a "Carbon Footprint Software" is available to quickly calculate carbon dioxide emissions, enhancing business capabilities and managing greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 3 for customers, thereby increasing business opportunities and strengthening the Thai packaging industry's potential. The goal is to achieve CFP certification for 100% of products manufactured in Thailand by 2027.

Mr. Vicharn Jitphakdee, CEO of SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SCGP) stated that amidst rapid changes, including economic volatility, technology, and climate conditions, SCGP continuously transforms its business in all aspects while building resilience to ensure quality business growth. This includes developing employees to be ready for any situation, utilizing digital technology to enhance production efficiency, and providing services that meet customer needs. Another transformation that SCGP prioritizes is “Sustainability Transformation”, which drives business according to sustainable development principles with the concept of Inclusive Green Growth, increasing participation in environmental stewardship and creating value for all stakeholders through socially and environmentally responsible business practices.

SCGP has set a target for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with plans to reduce emissions through various processes, including increasing the share of renewable energy, improving production processes to enhance energy efficiency, and supporting partners and customers in reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the value chain to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
SCGP also recognizes that its packaging production falls under Scope 3 for customers, which is related to greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the company is dedicated to collaborating with the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) or TGO to develop guidelines and methods for obtaining the Carbon Footprint of Products (CFP) certification. The goal is to enhance the capacity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions for customers. Recently, SCGP successfully received CFP certification from TGO for products manufactured in Thailand, including paper products, writing paper, photocopy paper, packaging paper, food packaging, and plastic packaging, covering a total of 128 products. Additionally, it has received certification for the carbon footprint from the printing and forming processes of paper packaging, encompassing 16 processes across all paper packaging product categories.

Moreover, SCGP has developed a Carbon Footprint Label for Products issued by SCGP (Private Declaration Label) to display the greenhouse gas emissions of packaging. The company has also developed a “Carbon Footprint Software” for products that is accurate, easy, and quick, providing a solution for customers to operate in accordance with environmental measures. Additionally, SCGP provides customers with greenhouse gas emission certification documents for reference, aligning with increasingly enforced environmental regulations in various countries. This can help increase sales opportunities and access to new markets for exporting customers, as well as facilitate the development and selection of packaging that reduces greenhouse gas emissions, thereby enhancing the environmental standards of the Thai packaging industry.
“SCGP is committed to conducting business within the ESG framework, focusing on developing environmentally friendly packaging, fostering collaboration with stakeholders in the value chain, and growing alongside environmental stewardship (Inclusive Green Growth). We are also studying and monitoring the situation to prepare for new regulations that may arise in the future, and we are ready to support and collaborate with customers in developing innovations and solutions that will effectively and sustainably reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” Mr. Vicharn stated.
