Tongwei Solar Sees Surge in Sales as Solar Panel Market in Thailand Grows, Launches New Product 'G12R'
Tongwei Solar, or TW SOLAR, the world's largest manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar panels (Photovoltaic: PV) from China, in collaboration with Sunday Solar Supply Co., Ltd., a major distributor of Tongwei Solar, has launched a new product line 'G12R' with higher efficiency and module power, announcing its full-scale entry into the Thai solar panel market in 2024, in response to government policies promoting solar energy use in households and industries, indicating that Thailand is poised to become the largest solar panel market in Southeast Asia.

Mr. Jack Xu, Director of Technical Services for International Markets at Tongwei Solar, stated that in recent years, Thailand has emerged as a leader in the solar cell market in Southeast Asia. According to IHS data, Thailand had an installed capacity of 1.26GW in 2022, accounting for 36% of the market share in Southeast Asia. With ongoing clean energy policies and incentives, it is expected that the installed capacity of solar power in Thailand will reach 2.17GW by 2023, making it the largest solar market in Southeast Asia. Currently, household usage accounts for less than 1% of the total installed capacity, while industrial and commercial installations reach 1.85GW, representing 85% of the market.
In 2023, Tongwei Solar has made significant progress in selling solar panels or modules in the Thai market by establishing long-term strategic partnerships with key distributors in Thailand, such as Sunday Solar Supply Co., Ltd. This collaboration aims to provide tailored sales and service solutions to meet diverse customer needs, with the goal of increasing customer satisfaction and market share.

Since Tongwei began marketing in Thailand in the second quarter of 2023, it has quickly gained a top market share due to the confidence of Thai consumers in Tongwei's products, the first solar energy company in the world to be listed in the Fortune Global 500. Tongwei has a strong foundation in a complete industrial chain and has been ranked first in the world for materials and silicon cells for several consecutive years, thanks to advanced technology in automated production systems and high-level smart systems in the global PV industry, along with strict material selection and quality control. This has positioned Tongwei Solar as a leader in high-quality modules. Furthermore, Tongwei Solar's module business continues to grow robustly, with four existing manufacturing bases in Hefei, Yancheng, Jintang, and Nantong, and plans to begin production at its Shuangliu base by 2025 to increase total production capacity to 100 gigawatts, gaining widespread recognition from Thai customers.

Due to positive feedback from customers and a favorable growth trend in the solar cell market in Thailand, Tongwei is moving forward with the launch of its new product 'Tongwei Solar G12R', which will be its flagship product marketed in Thailand in 2024. This product belongs to the N-Type category (silicon panels doped with phosphorus, making them electron conductors when exposed to sunlight, resulting in higher efficiency and slower degradation compared to other types of panels). It utilizes high-efficiency TONGWEI TNC battery technology with an average conversion efficiency of over 26.1%, employing super multi-busbar design, laser cutting without loss, high-density packaging, and other technologies to reduce the risk of micro-cracks and enhance performance. In terms of design, the G12R has been improved based on the traditional 182 series, considering the main current transportation format to maximize container usage and reduce transportation costs. With increased power output, the overall cost will decrease, and with the standard features of Tongwei's solar panels, which use the best silicon for solar cell production, they are flexible enough to prevent small cracks from extreme temperatures, making them suitable for Thailand's hot climate. Therefore, it is believed that the G12R product line will effectively meet the diverse PV application needs in Thailand, including residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

Mr. Frank Yan, Co-founder and CEO of Sunday Solar Supply Co., Ltd., the sole distributor and installer of solar equipment in Thailand for the 'Tongwei Solar' brand, stated, “In 2023, Tongwei's customer base in the Thai market primarily consists of residential, industrial, and commercial customers, as well as large-scale ground-mounted power plants. Overall, the market has received a positive response from Thai customers, and we expect to sell no less than 500 megawatts of solar panels by 2024, generating over 5 billion baht in revenue within three years.
According to IHS data, a global economic and investment information provider, it has been found that Thailand entered the gigawatt (GW) market in 2022, with an average annual increase in installed solar panel capacity of about 2GW from 2023 to 2030, indicating that the overall market value is stable. This has attracted many global solar cell companies to enter the Thai market, leading to increased competition in the Thai solar cell market in the future. In addition to competition in terms of price, appearance, and product quality, conversion efficiency and technological advancements will be key competitive points.
For the marketing plan for next year, both Tongwei and Sunday Solar Supply, as strategic distributors, will continue to strengthen their presence in the Thai market through close collaboration to provide more convenient and efficient energy services to industrial, commercial, and residential customers. There will also be increased digital media efforts to communicate the efficiency and appeal of the Tongwei brand. Additionally, they will closely monitor ground-mounted power plant projects in Thailand to support the country's critical electricity system and promote local renewable energy development.
