AWC Partners with IHG to Develop Two Luxury Hotels in Chiang Rai Under the InterContinental and Kimpton Brands, Attracting Global Travelers to the Northernmost Destination of Thailand
Asset World Corporation Public Company Limited (AWC), a Thai real estate developer focused on comprehensive lifestyle solutions, has signed an agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG Hotels & Resorts), a global leader in the hotel industry, to develop two new luxury hotels in Chiang Rai. These include the 'InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort' and 'Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle'. This marks the first project for both AWC and IHG in this northernmost province of Thailand, supporting AWC's long-term GROWTH-LED strategy to develop quality assets in high-potential locations and diversify its hotel and service portfolio by bringing globally renowned brands to Chiang Rai, a hidden gem in tourism waiting to be discovered. This initiative aims to position Chiang Rai as an eco-cultural tourism destination for travelers worldwide.
Nawallapa Traisorat, CEO and Managing Director of AWC, stated, "Chiang Rai is one of Thailand's unique destinations, offering beautiful natural attractions, art, temples, and indigenous hill tribe villages. It provides a diverse and sustainable cultural travel experience for visitors. With its potential as a 'Creative City of Design' recognized by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) and home to several national artists, along with robust infrastructure such as an international airport, this collaboration between AWC and IHG will help make this northernmost province of Thailand memorable for travelers both domestically and internationally. It caters to couples and families who value nature, culture, and relaxation in luxury wellness resorts. Additionally, the project's prime riverside location will feature dining and bar options that enhance the unique experience of cruising, connecting tourism between Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. With a total investment of over 1.5 billion baht, these two hotels will not only support the tourism and service industry in northern Thailand but also promote sustainable tourism amidst the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of Lanna. Both hotels will be located in the same area, offering tourists a choice for a stay that reflects the distinctive identity of the brands, supporting Chiang Rai as a global tourism destination while creating long-term value and benefits for the surrounding community and society."
Mr. Rajit Sukumaran, Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Korea at IHG Hotels & Resorts, expressed, "We are very excited to expand our hotel network in Thailand with AWC following the recent opening of the InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping Hotel. This partnership marks another significant step in our long-term relationship of over 10 years between IHG and AWC, aimed at attracting more of our customers to travel to northern Thailand. The 'InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort' and 'Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle' will offer distinctive brand experiences to introduce Chiang Rai to travelers from around the world, demonstrating our commitment to growth in Thailand by providing world-class service."
With AWC's strategy of developing quality assets in high-potential locations and partnering with globally recognized brands, the 'InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort' will be a newly developed project, while 'Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle' will be a combination of new development and renovation of the Imperial Golden Triangle Resort, situated in the stunning Golden Triangle area of Chiang Saen, surrounded by the Mekong and Ruak rivers, which form the natural borders between Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. This hotel will be the second InterContinental property for AWC in northern Thailand, following the successful launch of the InterContinental Chiang Mai Mae Ping Hotel, and the third Kimpton hotel for AWC after Kimpton Pattaya and Kimpton Hua Hin. Both new hotels are expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The 'InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort' features architecture inspired by traditional Lanna culture, comprising 68 pool villas and garden villas, while 'Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle' offers 68 contemporary Lanna-style suites, including rooms with private pools and pool access. Both hotels will have a total of 8 dining and bar venues, including the Glasshouse Cafe and Restaurant, which seats 110 guests by the Mekong River, featuring architecture inspired by the 19th-century industrial revolution and contemporary interior design.
Additionally, the hotels will offer a new river-based travel experience for guests with a lounge on a cruise boat, symbolizing the arrival of the West through river travel in the late industrial era. River cruises will take visitors to explore local communities along the Mekong River, including neighboring countries like Myanmar and Laos, offering afternoon tea sets with Thai and local desserts, along with bars and restaurants that reflect the culture of northern Thailand, blending Eastern and Western art.
Both new hotels will serve as health destinations with Thai herbal treatments, swimming pools, fitness centers, and cultural tourism, in collaboration with the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under royal patronage to support local communities, alongside the 'AWC Stay to Sustain' initiative, a sustainable project encouraging hotel guests to participate in the conservation and restoration of community forest trees. Furthermore, the 'InterContinental Chiang Rai Golden Triangle Resort' and 'Kimpton Chiang Rai Golden Triangle' aim to achieve LEED or WELL certification, aligning with AWC's commitment to developing projects according to green building standards. The hotels will also host The GALLERY, a social enterprise project by AWC showcasing products created by designers, artists, and the Thai community.
