The Sirikit National Convention Center continues its memorandum of understanding with the Department of Climate Change and Environment (DCE) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment by delivering over 10,000 kilograms of dried organic waste to support the circular economy in the community, improve quality of life, and create economic value for sustainable development.

This delivery of dried organic waste is part of an initiative where the Sirikit Center has signed a cooperation agreement with the DCE, aimed at promoting and supporting waste management from the source by processing organic waste generated within the Sirikit Center for research purposes and disseminating knowledge to community enterprises to ensure long-term environmental sustainability.

MR. Savadivut Sawadivatan, Deputy Managing Director of NCC Management and Development Co., Ltd., which manages the Sirikit National Convention Center, stated, "The Sirikit Center is pleased to continue our agreement with the DCE to promote and support food waste management from events by applying the concept of a circular economy to create value from food scraps, recycling them into dried organic waste. This maximizes resource utilization and benefits the community by using it to feed black soldier fly larvae to eliminate organic waste, turning it into fertilizer for planting trees and vegetables, while also generating income for the community alongside reducing greenhouse gas emissions from waste, thereby fostering sustainability for the environment, community, and society."

"In the past year, the Sirikit Center has processed food waste by drying it to enhance its value and maximize benefits for community enterprises. The Sirikit Center has been able to deliver dried waste to the DCE and community enterprises totaling over 10,000 kilograms, leading to effective waste reduction and circularity, resulting in zero waste, increased income, and reduced expenses for community enterprises. Additionally, it has helped reduce the Sirikit Center's food waste by 55,797 kilograms, equivalent to planting over 15,686 trees annually, and has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by over 141,174 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per year (kgCO2e/yr)."

Panya Vorapetchrayut, Director of the Climate Change and Environmental Research Center, stated, "The department has implemented the United Nations' policy that sets the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding food waste, urging each country to halve food waste by 2030. This presents a great opportunity for the department and the Sirikit Center to collaborate in line with the UN's policy to reduce food waste and combat global warming, which is one of the initiatives leading to the success of sustainable development goals."

The Sirikit Center, as a leader in sustainable events, remains committed to becoming a venue that considers the community, society, and environment, and is ready to drive Thailand's event business towards sustainable growth.
