Nippon Paint Decorative Coatings (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is once again providing opportunities for young designers to showcase their design skills and gain real work experience alongside leading designers from the country and Asia, on the international design competition stage Asia Young Designer Awards 2023 or AYDA, which has been held continuously for the 16th year. This initiative encourages students in the fields of architecture and interior design to express their creativity aimed at enhancing living standards and quality of life sustainably through designs that relate to the environment and technology, under the concept "Converge: Championing Purposeful Designs" . Winners in each category will receive cash prizes of up to 100,000 baht, along with a one-year subscription to the Sketchup Studio Education Software 2023, and a significant opportunity to represent Thailand in competition with winners from over 16 countries at the Asia Young Designer Summit. Those selected as winners at the Asia level will participate in the special Design Discovery Program at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in the United States, gaining intensive design knowledge for three weeks, valued at over 300,000 baht, at no cost.

This year’s Asia Young Designer Awards is held under the concept "Converge: Championing Purposeful Designs", which emphasizes the importance of design elements and the greatest benefits to humanity, integrating the interaction between humans, the environment, and technology seamlessly to enhance quality of life and promote sustainable development.

Mr. Watchara Sirithichai, General Manager of Nippon Paint Decorative Coatings (Thailand) Co., Ltd., stated, “The Asia Young Designer Awards is one of Nippon Paint’s commitments to support young designers with potential in architecture and interior design. This platform allows youth to express their talents beneficially to society without limits. This year’s competition concept emphasizes the importance of design that incorporates innovations and new technologies to improve people’s living conditions while considering the environment and community, maximizing resource utilization for sustainable development. We believe that this competition platform, organized by Nippon Paint for over a decade, will help nurture young designers to step into the professional design industry genuinely, through encouragement and support for new designers to broaden their horizons and enter the global design arena with quality.”

Mr. Thanawat Sukakarnon, Chairman of Interior Vision Co., Ltd. and a judge for the Asia Young Designer Awards this year, added regarding this year’s competition theme, “As a member of the judging panel for this project, it is a great pleasure for the design industry in Thailand to witness the evolution of young designers clearly. Each year, the competition theme varies, yet it is based on the belief that design can create beneficial changes for people, communities, and the environment. This year’s theme, "Converge: Championing Purposeful Designs", challenges the economic, natural, and environmental issues that humanity faces together. Designers will analyze real problems and use their limitless imagination to solve them, incorporating innovations into their designs to maximize benefits for surrounding communities and enhance living standards. As a judge and a senior in the design field, I am confident that this year we will see works from young designers filled with fresh and fun creativity, reflecting the designers' identities and sustainably improving the quality of life for people in society.”

Assistant Professor Dr. Wasin Wisesakdee, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and a lecturer in the Interior Design program at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, representing the faculty advisors for the project, invited youth by saying, "Participating in the Asia Young Designer Awards is a significant achievement in life that opens doors for youth to showcase their potential, meet peers in the design field from both domestic and international backgrounds, and gain knowledge from renowned global designers. The Asia Young Designer Awards has seen students from our university participating annually, winning championships for two consecutive years, including Ms. Patcharakul Paesamwang, who won at the international level, and Ms. Kulnith Patthanawitthakul, who is preparing to compete internationally. This competition has helped both of them develop a more systematic way of thinking and confidence in expressing creative ideas outside the box. Therefore, I encourage young people who enjoy challenges to apply, to gain real work experience outside the classroom from the competition tasks, and to seize the opportunity to participate in the Design Discovery Program at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, which is considered a memorable experience in life."

Young designers interested in participating in the Asia Young Designer Awards 2023 for both architecture and interior design can seize the opportunity to enroll in a short program at Harvard University from July 1 to October 27, 2023.
