Deposit Protection Agency Reports 3.36% Growth in Deposits, Protecting 89.66 Million Depositors with Coverage of 16.12 Trillion Baht
Mr. Songpol Chiwapantharoj, Director of the Deposit Protection Agency (DPA) stated that according to the Deposit Protection Statistics Report as of the end of October 2022, it was found that the total amount of protected deposits reached 16.12 trillion baht, an increase of 525 billion baht from the end of 2021, representing a growth of 3.36%. This growth primarily stems from large depositors and funds parking their money in deposit accounts during times of financial market volatility, as well as businesses depositing funds to maintain liquidity. It is expected that this year, deposits will continue to grow due to rising interest rates on deposits offered by financial institutions.
Meanwhile, the number of protected depositors has increased to 89.66 million, up by 3.83 million from 2021, representing a growth of 4.46%. Most of this increase comes from individual depositors with deposits of less than 1 million baht. Currently, depositors receiving full protection account for 98.01% (87.88 million) of all depositors. The total amount in the deposit protection fund is currently 137 billion baht, with high liquidity, strength, and stability, ready to protect depositors' funds.

The Deposit Protection Agency is moving forward to build confidence in deposit protection for depositors and the public, unveiling a 5-year roadmap (2023-2027) highlighting 4 key strategies, along with deposit protection measures through branchless commercial banks (Virtual Banks). Depositors will receive protection up to the legal limit of 1 million baht per depositor per bank, reinforcing the strength and stability of the deposit protection fund and enhancing the stability of the country's financial system.
